The purpose of this group is to offer musicians the opportunity to play Grateful Dead songs with others in a relaxed group situation. This meetup has been running now for several months with great results. Musicians are connecting, working on improvisational chops and getting to know the rich catalogue of songs the Grateful Dead played.
Any kind of musician or singer who shares an interest in playing live Improvisational Rock and Blues songs inspired by originals and covers of the Grateful Dead is welcome. This includes all covers they played on tour, as well as songs in all the versions the band played over the years including their solo projects.
All sessions are recorded, and we share good takes to the attendees on Sound Cloud.
We host Thursday (Electro/Acoustic Session) meetups in supportive and friendly venues.
Our jams tend to be laid back affairs with diverse tunes played. This gives great opportunities to share tips and enjoy playing the music together. Bring your acoustic instruments , your voice or simply come listen. Although we welcome all levels, musicians should be able to follow standard chord charts. (or just know the songs!) An Ipad with the OnSong App is very handy. You can also follow posted links for references. We run through entire songs, working the "built-in" jams designed by the Grateful Dead. Musicians are all invited to sing and improvise solos. However, there’s no pressure to do either. It’s OK to just strum chords. Song sheets and a set list are always available and few copies printed for the jam. Feel free to make your own song book from the files.
Any style of instrument such as guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, harmonica, ukulele, bass and percussions (or speaker/keyboards).
If for some reason you can't make it, please change your RSVP to "no" so others on the waitlist get bumped in. Especially for the live Jam as these places are reserved.
No Show and Cancellations: repeated no shows and unresponsive members will be removed to keep the group active. If you have been removed, feel free to join again when you are ready to jam.
