During the "Off-Season"

Based on a recent discussion, here are some ideas for things to do during the Ultimate "off-season" to stay active.

#1) Play Ultimate.

A) Although we have tended to wind down quite a bit over the colder months, I'm hoping that since this group has gotten larger, we'll be able to keep weekend games year-round.
B) Ultimate Chicago has a winter Co-Ed HAT league. http://ultimatechicag...
C) SPUN will be playing indoors on Thursdays in Carol Stream for $10/wk, starting in January - http://sports.groups....
D) There's a group in Evanston that plays year-round on Sundays (outdoor), so this is an option if our games die down - http://sports.groups....

#2) Run. I don't enjoy running, but I know there are some individuals that do.

#3) Gyms and gym-related bootcamp-type-things. I know J and Tony do some lifting some mornings and have extended an invite to basically everyone recently. Check the "Discussions" section for details on that. Also, Matt has started doing once-a-week bootcamp things which actually seem like a really good way to have fun and work out at the same time. I haven't been out because he's scheduled them over Ultimate, but the link is here - http://www.youregoing... - Although I haven't been out for one of these bootcamps, I did do a gym workout with Matt during the summer, and I was honestly sore for a week afterward.

#4) Racquetball, badminton, & indoor tennis. I'm not aware of a good place to play in the area without becoming a "member" of the facility. You can play open badminton on Wednesdays, I believe, in Hanover Park at their Centre Court facility. The cost is pretty cheap, but it's bring-your-own-racquet. Don't dismiss it as a workout...if you're doing it right, there's a lot of motion, direction-changes, and the number of people make it like a sauna-environment, so you should get a solid sweat in.

#5) Grappling / Martial arts / Yoga / Tai Chi / Etc. Big variety in the intensity of the workout here, but you should be able to build endurance, get a good workout, gain flexibility, destress, etc, I can give a couple recommendations, but it's probably best to go find what you're most interested in.

#6) Basketball. I hear they play it indoors, now. Who knew?

#7) Volleyball / Wallyball.

There's probably a bunch of other things, but this should be sufficient to get you from ~end of October until ~March. Just remember to come back to Ultimate when we're "back in season."
