Upstate Hiking and Outdoor Adventures

Meetup: We will be meeting in front of the Poinsett Plaza at the corner of McBee and Main.

Time: We will leave at 10:10 a.m. sharp.

Greenville has a lot of public art. We are going to focus on the art pieces north of McBee Street as we walk around downtown looking at and discussing what we see. This hike is meant to be enjoyable and to introduce you to what downtown Greenville has to offer. It is for entertainment purposes only. I'm not an art major. Just a critic :)

Information: This will be a lollipop hike starting at the Slate Rock trailhead. There is a beautiful view of the mountains here on this hike.

Other: If this is your first hike with me, please contact me via the Meetup site to discuss your capabilities before you come on your first hike with me. You are also responsible for the capabilities of any guest you bring so please make sure they can do the event. Emergency contact information: Please have an emergency information sheet in your pack in case of an emergency. Information on it should include your full name, address, and phone number, medical conditions, allergies, blood type (if known), and emergency contact name and telephone number. This information is for emergency medical personnel. We will not ask you for this information. No dogs please. Children under 14: Please check with me before you bring a child under 14.

car free Wednesdays are back! We’ll camp tues, ride the loop on Wednesday, Camp Wed nite, relax and enjoy campfires. You will need to make your own campsite reservations ASAP, as they fill up fast. Andy & I are on C-40 and there are a few along that row still available. Also…no showers or electric, so will need to bring all provisions. Two tents per site are allowed. Do not forget your car pass if you plan on parking anywhere other than the campsite.

Trail Days is the biggest event of the year in Damascus and the world's largest celebration of the Appalachian Trail! Each year in May, the town swells to an estimated 20,000 people for a celebration of the Appalachian Trail and hiker culture. You can expect a grand reunion of thru-hikers past and present, over a hundred vendors of handmade goods and some of the best outdoor gear in the industry, and a packed schedule of live music and events. Trail Days is always the weekend after Mother's Day.
The way it works for this trip. We bring our bikes since the creeper trail is right there so there will be some bike riding. Lots of walking. We will be camping in the ball field which will have port a pots.
cost: estimated as the info is not out yet but $5 to get into ball field, $20 to park truck. Once truck is parked it does not move. This is considered a backpack event as the truck is parked and you walk to the field and set up. a small wagon is great to haul coolers etc to the campsite. IT IS CROWDED. You will need to bring your own food and drinks. There is food around in the town square and other places but it works better if you have your own.
