UXNY x Applico Roundtable/Rooftop Party

*The original Meetup page for the event was accidentally deleted. Please RSVP again, sorry.*

-----

However much we love usability testing, we're excited to be hosting a very different kind of event this summer for and with our fellow designers.

UXNY has joined forces with Applico, one of the leading mobile design and dev firms in NYC, for a roundtable convo and rooftop party for the UX and design communities. Applico has been awesome enough to provide their amazing roof for the event (see photos below) along with a DJ and free booze all night.

More about Applico:

We help businesses capitalize on the Connected Revolution

When Applico was founded in a dorm room in 2009, our goal was simple – build the best apps possible on the market. Since then, our business expanded to include everything our clients need to successfully dominate in this age of the Connected Revolution.

Under one roof we offer all of the services necessary for building, implementing and evolving solutions that disrupt markets and invigorate internal cultural shifts. Strategy, design, development, analytics and consulting are all leveraged as needed by our clients to competitively thrive in the Connected Revolution. And as a mobile industry visionary and thought leader, we help position our clients to compete in where the market is going – not just where it is today.

Great event! The discussions about UX and design were really insightful. I'm glad I attended.

Really enjoyed the discussion and the event friday night. Looking forward to the next one!

One of the UX apps for testing that I forgot to mention is:

    http://silverbackapp.com/

I've yet to use it myself but hear great things. If any of you have, please chime in with your experience!

Also, on skeu vs flat topic…I like this perspective:

"Flat design. Why not allow users to easily see what they can do? We need a golden middle ground between skeuomorphism and a dearth of distinguishing signifiers for UI elements."

Great design starts with affordance. http://www.elezea.com/2013/05/still-about-affordance/

I use silverback for qualitative testing and absolutely love it. Great features and very affordable.

Even though the rooftop part disappeared, this meetup was well worth it!

A few of the apps that were mentioned the other night:

    http://usepropeller.com/
    http://www.invisionapp.com/
    http://balsamiq.com/
    http://www.axure.com/

...And that's all I can think of offhand. Please have mercy on my early-onset dementia by adding to this list.

Before I forget -- the site I mentioned that was a visual organizer (like Evernote's clipping functionality) is Iceber.gs -- https://iceber.gs/
