Do you want to communicate your ideas better visually? Do you want to learn something new? Do you want to get away from your computer and brainstorm? So do we! That's why we're hosting a Sketch Club event, and we hope you'll join us on Saturday, Feb. 15.

We’ll be taking over the Pixo offices in Urbana. Here’s the deal:

• We’ll ask you to read ONE of these 4 great books on sketching ahead of time. (More details about the books (http://www.meetup.com/UXBookClubCU/messages/boards/thread/40988652) in this post.)

• See What I Mean (http://rosenfeldmedia.com/books/see-what-i-mean/) by Kevin Cheng (see note below about a discount for this book)

• The Sketchnote Handbook (http://www.peachpit.com/store/sketchnote-handbook-the-illustrated-guide-to-visual-9780321857897) by Mike Rohde

• Sketching User Experiences: The Workbook (http://shop.oreilly.com/product/9780123819598.do) by Bill Buxton et al.

• Making Comics: Storytelling Secrets of Comics, Manga and Graphic Novels (http://www.amazon.com/Making-Comics-Storytelling-Secrets-Graphic/dp/0060780940) by Scott McCloud

• On Feb. 15, we’ll gather at Pixo and first do some fun exercises to warm up our brains and hands.

• Then, we’ll split into 4 groups for activities and discussion based on the book you read. The small group discussion leaders will be Maya Bruck, Dan Newman, Cate Kompare, and Melinda Miller.

• Finally, we’ll come back together and present to each other, so we can all learn about the 3 books we didn’t read.

• Also … we'll have snacks and prizes.

This event is for everyone — developers, engineers, managers, writers, and designers, etc. Don’t worry about your job title, previous experience, skill level, or comfort with drawing! We’ll be experimenting and learning together, so don’t be bashful.

Still need some convincing? We’ve personally experienced the power of going analog, and the benefit of getting messy with paper and trying out ideas. Here are some resources for inspiration if you need it: Sketch, Sketch, Sketch (http://52weeksofux.com/post/346650933/sketch-sketch-sketch); How to Sketchnote: An Interview with Mike Rohde (https://creativemarket.com/blog/2013/10/09/how-to-sketchnote-an-interview-with-mike-rohde); See What I Mean (http://kevnull.com/2011/09/see-what-i-mean-short-talk-at-wordcamp-sf.html) video with Kevin Cheng; UX Sketch tag on flickr (https://www.flickr.com/groups/uxsketch/); and Sketchnote Army (http://sketchnotearmy.com/) examples.
