The Design of Everyday Things by Don Norman
This September marks the one-year anniversary of UX Book Club C-U! It’s been a great year connecting with students and professionals from a variety of specialties in the Champaign-Urbana area, and we want to keep the momentum going. Here’s how you can help:
Become a co-organizer: Dan & Melinda could use some help behind the scenes. Would you be interested in putting in a little more time and helping organize the group? This would involve hosting some meetups by greeting attendees, introducing members to each other, and being active participants in the book discussions. We also meet occasionally to do longer-range planning and publicity. And we share responsibilities for making contact with authors and publishers. Please contact Dan or Melinda if you’d like to know more.
Design a t-shirt: It’s about time we had our very own t-shirt, don’t you think? To get the ball rolling we’re interested in identifying a designer or designers who’d want to take this on. If that’s you, email Dan or Melinda. Once we know who’s interested, we’ll come up with some guidelines, deadlines, and a system for soliciting feedback.
Publicize the group: If you’re on Twitter please tweet or retweet about the group. We’re @UXBookClubCU and we use the #UXCU hashtag. Otherwise please mention the group to folks you know who may be interested and invite them along.
Suggest discussion topics: Feel free to mention an idea for a book, article, video, etc., at any time. We try to be diligent about soliciting ideas from the members before we pick a series of books, but your suggestions are always welcome. The message boards on our meetup group are a great way to do this.
Suggest other activities: We’ve toyed with of doing member-led demonstration sessions or occasional activity-based meetings. What ideas do you have? We’re open to different formats or helping plan a special session on a weekend if others get on board. If you’ve got the kernel of idea, let Dan or Melinda know and we’ll help test the waters to see if there is more interest.
Whew! That’s it. We’re looking forward to a great 2nd year for the UX Book Club Champaign-Urbana. Hope to see you at Quality Beer for the September meetup!
