Re: [van-android-developers] Android and iOS developers needed

HI All

Its been way way too long from my side getting round to help put some time and energy into the group, newborns and startup endeavours being fairly sizeable time drains. That said, I'm readying for a bright new 2013.

It's great to hear Sam that you are organizing an Android thing. Would you object if I listed it for the Meetup group?

I will start a separate thread from this to cover a couple of things I've long been meaning to get to to get this group back in motion.

Cheers

Jerome

Hi Adam and co,

I am helping organize a developer event specifically for Android Devs on February 6th at the Network Hub. We've invited Immersion over from the valley to talk about their Haptics SDK and some of the ways devs have been using it. We'll have drinks, food, some cool toys to play with, and time to network. (also, some gift cards will be given away) So if you want to chat about APIs, Android, and how much the Nexus 4 launch blew (hint: a lot), sign up here;

http://vancouverimmersionmeetup.eventbrite.com

I've tried to reach out to the meetup organizer in the past but haven't had any luck, so sorry if this feels like too much of a plug. We're limited to 50 people for the evening to best get your name on quick if you're interested!

Also, if you want to meet with the Immersion folks one on one to discuss how to improve your android, I can help arrange that as well. Hit me up [address removed] if you have any questions.

Thanks! Back to your regular broadcasting.

Sam

Well let's use this to arrange a meetup or something. How many people are interested and I'll find a venue that matches. Feel free to respond directly to me and not the list, to not spam everyone.

I'll update the list if their is sufficient interest.

Hi Steve,

I get it. Even as an Android developer myself sometimes I'd like to hire others to bolster my ability quickly. The trouble is that like anything else it costs money, and it should. There's a far too pervasive myth these days that devs will work for free in exchange for the promise of eventual and assured success (because every idea is a great one, right?).

The best way to handle it is to seek funding first, hire developers, don't expect those doing the grunt work to also bare the burden of risk. That's my 2 cents.

Often if you can't find funding, that's a tell-tale sign to a dev that it may be far too risky a proposition. I've worked in software dev for almost 18 years and I can't tell you the number of times I've heard the "We'll get paid eventually -- because this is going to be huge" and then didn't.

Have you thought about Kickstarter?

Darryl

Actually, I like this particular discussion.

All jokes & sarcasm aside, I'm in a similar boat as Dwayne.  How does someone with limited funds find a small team of people who'd like to invest some of their time to build the idea into a product in order to be part of its success ?

For my 'great idea', I need experienced people who have apps in at least one market:
- UI designer(s) for Android & iOS, phones & tablets
- Android & iOS developer(s) for background service & front-end UI
- Google/Amazon cloud developer(s)

In the end, I think _I_ might need to be acquired into an existing team :)  My expertise covers requirements, analysis, and high-level architecture/design.

Thanks,
Steve.

I requested the removal, because I had the feeling the conversation between the two was going down the wrong way. No need for that here.
Nothing against job posts. Nothing against tech discussion. This one wasn't any of them.

I'm with you, Adam. It was nice to see some activity. Ironic that it was followed up with a request for removal. Maybe this is a list for people soliciting development?

It's kind of funny. The only thing that ever goes out on this list is people looking to hire for their startups.

Who wants to discuss some android development? Maybe a meetup or something?

I have no idea who the android developers on this list.

Sincerely,

Thanks Tom,

The business i have built is with my business partner through enormous networking. I am a marketing and business graduate. I enjoy the field and understand how to adhere to market requirements. We were able to grab a lot fo attention through our creative marketing initiatives. I know for sure if i have  a product, i will have no problem marketing it, which im sure a lot of companies today lack in. As far as money goes, we have interested investors who are willing to invest. I have a network which i can approach.

Let me ask you Tom, Do you understand business well? do you understand what it takes to build a successful company? If you do then you will know where i come from. I need a developer to build me the product, the rest I will take care off. simple and to the point

Have a great day :)

Cheers,

Dwayne

So if you do not have skills do you have money ? Setting up a business or corporation costs very little, ideas less.

What are you bringing to the table besides ideas and ambition ?

Hi:

I am looking for some freelance mobile app developers who are looking to start something of their own. I have some apps I would like developed, but Currently do not have the expertise to build them. I have a business setup already, and now just need the right fit for this company.

The app developer I am looking for must be good at what he/she does. I would like to get these projects started as soon as possible.

If you think this is you I am looking for please do get in touch with me at the earliest.
