Sketch on Bowen Island

Details

THINK OF THIS as a great ALL day event and sketching opportunity! Going to nearby Bowen Island is also an adventure - we did it last year and it was lots of fun! To ensure that you get to the Bowen Island meet up on time, consider taking the #257 bus at 8:55 am, leaving from Dunsmuir @ Cambie. When we finish is really open-ended. Bowen Island is an interesting destination with lovely coastlines, deep forests and a much slower lifestyle. It is also a part of Metro Vancouver.

We will meet on Bowen Island, after 10:45 am, at the Tell Your Friends Café, 400 Bowen Island Trunk Road, Snug Cove, which is on a lane to the right, as you come off the ferry. From our meeting point, we can spread out, explore and sketch.

The village of Snug Cove has a boat harbour, restaurants, pubs, ice cream available, gift shops and galleries. There is a fairly easy hiking trail, along a beach and through the forest to Killarney Lake (45 minutes each way).

Be at the Dunsmuir St @ Cambie Street stop before 8:55 am for the #257 Express bus and arrive at 9:30 am in Horseshoe Bay. The BC Ferries passenger ticket booths are visible as you exit the bus.

In Horseshoe Bay you basically have a good half hour to buy your passenger ticket, but you must allow 10 minutes to walk down a long corridor to the waiting lounge - you board the ferry from there, down a ramp. After that everything gets easier! BC Ferries sails from Horseshoe Bay to Snug Cove on Bowen Island and the views are spectacular!!!

Leave Horseshoe Bay: 10:10 am*, arrive in Snug Cove 10:30 (20 minute crossing).*
$12 passenger fare return.
