Book Group and Aprés POT LUCK

From 4:00 to 6:00 we will discuss When Bad Things Happen to Good People, an oldie-but-goodie (1978), by Rabbi Harold S. Kushner.

All are welcome to stay after the book discussion for an informal potluck as we continue an open discussion of vegan related topics.

When Bad Things Happen to Good People grapples with why God lets bad things happen (from a vegan perspective, to good and innocent animals), and may help with our emotional reactions when doing outreach, or just living among carnivists (Matthew Candelaria's term for those whose unconscious culture is to eat flesh).

For directions, call Sherry and Sarah at[masked], option 3.

I loved Laura's suggestion that we go around the circle and share the spiritual/religious atmosphere in which we were raised and our journeys since then. The deeply supportive atmosphere and the wonderful mixture of atheists, religious and spiritual seekers made for a fascinating discussion which left me feeling closer to all.

I plan to bring something to share (food) but I can't stay much past 6pm. I have to finish my prep for an early morning flight to Albuquerque the next morning. Before I forget, I have a suggestion for our next book. http://zoobiquity.com/

By way of full disclosure, I bought a copy to read on my trip.

This is Sherry typing on Sarah's computer: Wow! Lots of thoughts and feelings are coming up for me as I read When Bad Things Happen to Good People: some of the author's points I agree with and others I strongly disagree with, but it is forcing me to clarify MY belief system about human mistreatment of animals (human and non). I realize I'm not comforted by God as much as by my sense that factory farmed animals can feel energetically our work toward their freedom... Looking forward to all of your diverse views on this issue -- whether or not you have read this particular book!

Not sure yet if I'll make it. I leave for Albuquerque early the next morning. The book just arrived. I was aware of the God perspective and I'm looking forward to reading it. As an atheist, I have a pretty good handle on why bad things happen to good people. and animals. At least I have my own pretty strong views.
