March Vegan Drinks marks our twentieth meetup. Who'd have known that we would have grown from a group of about a dozen friends at Akasha on that first meetup to the monster of a group we are today?
One of the things that gets lost as the meetup grows so large is obviously the intimacy of the smaller group. For our 20th Vegan Drinks with Real Food Daily (RFD) we thought we'd put on a little social experiment and encourage everyone to team up with familiar faces you've seen and chatted with at past Vegan Drinks & other Vegan Events, and enjoy a less chaotic evening together over some great food & organic beers and wine.
Click on familiar faces on our members list; dust off old #s you've collected; email acquaintances you've wanted to get to know better (couples finding other vegan couples to dine with is always a treat); - and work out a time to meet up at either RFD location on the 27th at any dinner time, 5pm until close @10pm. We'll be emailing out a special ticket that RFD is generously giving to our members in celebration of the night that'll get you 10% off your tab for the event. Present the ticket when you ask for your bill. Please note that coupons can't be combined to make the discount greater than 10%.
To assist in finding dinner companions for newbies and those boxed out by people who act quickly, when you RSVP just comment that you are looking for somebody to dine with. Respond to others, shout out for dinner companions, couples get togethers, those with similar interests beyond veganism, etc. Also look for people to meet with in the "Talk About This MeetUp" section at the end of this post.
PLEASE DON'T JUST REPLY "YES" EXPECTING TO MEET UP WITH PEOPLE! THIS IS NOT LIKE OUR USUAL MEETUPS. YOU HAVE TO FIND YOUR OWN DINING COMPANIONS! IF YOU SHOW UP TO THE VENUE ALONE, EXPECT TO DINE ALONE. (SORRY FOR THE CAPITAL LETTERS.)
We don't advise grouping up over 4 people due to the table sizes at both locations (and potential wait times or arrive early). We might also end up with a solo table and time for the Santa Monica RFD Bakery community area (but we'll need someone to head the table -email Lex).
We envision this turning both RFD locations into a virtual Vegan Drinks community restaurant on this special occasion. You'll see familiar faces and hopefully know everyone dining at the tables next to you - waves, smiles and questionable table etiquette will ensue!
We hope this turns out to be a fun way to accommodate a large group at a popular restaurant, and we hope holding the event at multiple locations eases the traffic tensions. We sincerely expect some real friendships to be kindled this way.
Don't be bummed if a Vegan Drinker you've wanted to get to know better already has their table full or group picked out. Don't feel awkward about declining invitations you don't feel comfortable with. Everyone gets a free pass to do what's most comfortable for them ("oh sorry already booked, will hopefully see you there").
If you're going to split appetizers, etc with your group/table make sure to bring CASH so its easier to split up the tab. Also, this is a DUTCH event, everyone should expect to pay for themselves regardless of who invites & we highly recommend separate tabs, but that doesn't preclude generosity!
For those of you new to Real Food Daily, we HIGHLY recommend the NACHOS!!! I've actually turned two people vegan with those. Their selection of organic beer & wine is small but fantastic; if you're getting a large bottle beer, ask for two glasses and split it! The RFD Burger with the works is one of our all time favorites, but for some it's too far removed. Make sure to check out the March Specials and Soup of the Day as well.
