Full Moon First Creek Experiment - Desert Jam

First Creek Moonlight Experiment - Music in the Desert

Current hourly weather forecast - Blue Diamond (

To be in compliance with the BLM 20-person limit, we will split this hike into two events. This one is a hike plus amateur musical jam. Participants should bring any small portable instrument such as harmonica, bongos, kazoo, ukulele, flute, ocarina, travel-guitar, etc. Please indicate in comment the instrument (or vocal) you will bring. If you don't plan to bring/play an instrument or sing, sign up for the other Full Moon First Creek Easy Hike instead: (rsvp for one, not both)

NOTE: we often lose participants who go to the wrong place (Oak Creek) when they see parked cars. Oak Creek often has a popular "drum circle". That is NOT our group. First Creek parking is a mile south of Oak Creek.

Difficulty Rating: 1 (easy) Total Distance: 3.5 miles Elevation Gain: minimal Note: full moon actually starts the next morning, July 22.

This easy moonlight hike is over fairly flat terrain. Instead of the common First Creek mini-waterfall route, we will veer to the left on toward a clearing area surrounded by trees. Here we will take time to rest, snack, or whatever before heading back. Meet directly at the parking area at 7:30PM sharp. Those more than 5 minutes late will have to catch up on the trail.

Keep your organizer's phone # with you - Bob - (702).35zero.7zero12

I practice Leave No Trace hiking and ask that you do too. That means no trash left behind...not even orange peels or apple cores. If you have a dog along, be prepared to clean up after it.

Important Things to Know About This Hike:

Bring plenty of water and snacks. Feel free to use sticks or poles or whatever other equipment is helpful to you. Red Rock rules say dogs must be leashed. Hiking shoes are preferred but any comfortable closed-toe shoe will do for this hike. We won't be climbing any big hills or rocks. There are no cliffs and edges to worry about. We recommend that you bring a flashlight (red lenses work best) or other lighting device. Feel free to call the organizer and ask any questions you might have regarding the hike. See you on the trail!

Fine print that no one reads: As with any hike, you are responsible for your own safety and well-being. Knowing your limits and proper preparation are key to a successful and enjoyable outing.
