RE: [vegetarian-514] October Meetups: World Vegetarian Day, Walk for Farm Animals

Actually, I just received the menu. Again, as with the Meatout event they catered, they’ve promised to prepare all the entries with plant ingredients. I’m looking forward to tasting vegan kheer!!

Hi Polly,

You are correct about Gokul’s not being vegan. However, they have promised to serve only vegan dishes for the buffet Saturday night – which is similar to what Gokul did when catering the Meatout last March. So they’ll serve saag tofu instead of saag paneer. And they’ll use sunflower oil instead of ghee when cooking, and coconut milk in place of yogurt. Or at least that is my understanding. If anyone knows different, then let me know.

Looking forward to seeing you Saturday.

Julia

hi, Julia

Thank you so much for organizing events!  I know (as a fellow organizer) what that entails, and really appreciate your efforts!

Gokul's one of my favorites, and it's been a fun place to satisfy the crave for authentic Indian cuisine over the years - fun to watch them develop and build their business.  Julia, it isn't strictly vegan, tho, so those of us who are need to keep an eye on the dish!  There are plenty of options there, so it's still one of the best spots in STL for the vegetarian or vegan restauranting palate.  Not trying to be argumentative - just trying to clarify in case anyone might care 'bout this before going to the restaurant.

Thank you again - and see you Sat.

Polly

Greetings St. Louis Vegetarian Society Meetup members!

It's hard to believe that October is only three days away. I've scheduled two meetups for the month and want to give some updates on both.

World Vegetarian Day
Saturday, October 4, 2008
This meetup is taking place at Gokul's and is a joint effort by the St. Louis Vegetarian Society and the Christian Vegetarian Association. Please note the time is 6:00 pm, not 7:00 pm as I originally posted. The charge is $12 for an all you can eat vegan buffet. You'll want to arrive on time because CVA has arranged for a speaker from Kenrick Seminary to provide insights to the principles of Mahatma Ghandi.

Walk for Farm Animals
I placed this event on the schedule to fulfill our desire for community service activities. However, there is a strong possibility I won't be able to attend. I work for a nonprofit that was flooded by Hurricane Ike and suffered a complete loss of equipment, data, and documents. Therefore my life has been turned upside down since Ike hit and my weekends have been affected. Therefore, if someone would be willing to volunteer as Meetup coordinator for this event, then I would appreciate it.

My email
Some of you have sent emails asking for my address. It's [address removed] . I trust everyone will use good judgment in writing to this address.

See you next Saturday!!

Julia
