***You may arrive at the Juice Pedaler Juice Bar anytime between 6:00pm and 8:00pm. The earlier, the better. But it's alright to arrive at 7:30pm or 8:00pm if you need to. Juice Pedaler closes at 8:00pm.***
UPDATE: Tomorrow night a small group of us (limit 12) is going to be renting bikes from Juice Pedaler (they are also a bike rental shop) and going on a bike ride in Prospect Park from 6:45pm to 7:45pm. This is optional, and limited to only 12 people. To go on the bike ride you must bring a $10 cash bike rental fee, and must sign up for it at the Juice Pedaler between 6:00pm and 6:30pm. Further details are below, please read.
To go on the bike ride, please do the following:
1. RSVP for the event on this page if you have not already.
2. Arrive at Juice Pedaler as close to 6:00pm as possible tomorrow. The sign-up period for the bike rental and ride will be from 6:00pm to 6:30pm. Only 12 bikes are available, and it's first-come, first-served. The bike ride itself will be from 6:45pm to 7:45pm. Basically we are going to ride in Prospect Park on the regular asphalt bike path that circles the park (inside the park). Nothing fancy.
3. Juice Pedaler is kindly giving us the discounted rate of $10 instead of their normal rate of $15 for the rental. Bring $10 cash. Thank you, Nicole and Deb of Juice Pedaler!
4. Bring one of the following types of government-issued photo ID: a. Driver's License, or b. government issued Non-Driver's ID, or c. a U.S. Passport.
5. You will be asked to sign a waiver.
This is a two-part event (now three-part, with the newly-added optional bike ride described above): Part One begins at my favorite juice bar -- Juice Pedaler in Brooklyn, directly on Prospect Park. Part Two is a night picnic in Prospect Park.
Part One: Juice at Juice Pedaler - 6:00pm to 8:00pm - Arrive Any Time Between 6pm and 8pm Cash Only!
This wonderful juice bar located directly across the street from Prospect Park has the best juice and most charming staff! The brainchild of two lovely Brooklyn residents Deborah Capone and Nicole Bilu, it opened last year to universal acclaim in the neighborhood (Windsor Terrace) and is extremely popular.
Huge windows at the front of the store face Prospect Park and Prospect Park Lake. Plus, they have a beautiful backyard. Come get your juice or smoothie, and then either a. sit inside facing the Park, or b. relax in their backyard, or c. take your juice across the street into Prospect Park, sit by the lake, and start your picnic early.
They do also have some food items, and an assortment of vegan snacks.
Part Two: Night Picnic in Prospect Park - 8:00pm to 9:30pm - We will gather directly in front of Juice Pedaler at 8:00pm and then walk across the street and go into the park.
Noteworthy Fact #1: Prospect Park is considered by many to be the jewel of all public parks in America.
Noteworthy Fact #2: Prospect Park was landscaped by the same men who created Central Park: Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux. Olmsted and Vaux themselves said they did a better job with Prospect Park than with Central Park.
***This is a "bring your own" picnic:***
1. Bring your own blanket (if you want one). AND
2. Bring your own food and beverage or water.
3. You do NOT have to bring enough food to share with others.
That said, if you want to bring extra food, feel free. For any food-sharers: please keep in mind that everyone's diet is not the same. If you do choose to take food from others, this is your own decision to make. You may not bring any alcoholic beverage (it is illegal).
We will be picnicking directly next to Prospect Park Lake, a beautiful 60-acre lake in this magnificent 585-acre masterpiece of a park.
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR ALL: It won't get dark till around 8:30pm. Even though Prospect Park is safe, please be sure to stay with the large group and DO NOT wander off by yourself, just to be extra safe. Everyone enters the park at their own risk. Just use good sense in whatever you do and do not wander off by yourself, or even wander off with one or two people. Stay with the large group.
For those of you who have never attended one of our Meetup events: this is an incredibly friendly & welcoming group. You will meet lots of friendly and wonderful people. We invite you to join us!
