*VEGAN* Dim Sum Lunch (+Seawall Walk, Stanley Park/Beach)

  • Jul 14, 2013 · 1:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

After lunch, we can walk on the Seawall to Stanley Park & hang-out on the beach perhaps.

Please bring exact change of $13 and pay me BEFORE taking a seat.

NOTE: A penalty of $5 per person is charged for no-shows and less-than-24-hour cancellations.

It's time to have another vegan dim sum lunch! :)

8-10 people can sit together at a big round table so it's a great opportunity to socialize and make new veg friends.

Come join us for this yummy lunch event, meet veg mates and have fun!! Most people come alone and everyone is friendly so don't be afraid to come on your own!  (Or bring your friend/family along. :)

--- OUR VEGAN DIM SUM MENU ---

Spinach Dumpling
Siu Mai
Rice Sheet Roll
Beancurd Skin Roll
Turnip Cake
Pot Sticker
Deep Fried Taro Dumpling

CASH ONLY and please bring exact change.

*** Come on time so you don't miss any dishes! ***
*** Menu might change. ***

LOCATION: Please note the restaurant is at 1018 Beach Avenue (between Burrard and Hornby) but it is right on the Seawall, not on the Beach Avenue side. The place used to be Chilli House Thai Bistro. Great. Mainstream dim sum often is greasy and rarely enough selections for vegans. Thanks to Aya who coached the owners to make different fillings, made several calls, and organized a good selection for us.

It was very nice to see you all to enjoy the lunch together!! Jenn and I ended up walking on the seawall for 2-3 hours and eating vegan burgers and tiramisu at Loving Hut Express for dinner! :)

Hi, this will be my first outing with this group, and I'm wondering about the e-mail that we need to respond to before we come? I haven't received it yet and don't know if I'll be able to check my e-mail again before I arrive (which I will do) at 1 pm.....

Sorry, Andrea will not be attending this event, invited to the Okanagan, Thank you for arranging for Elliot and Savannah.

Yes, I have added them as my "2 guests".

Veg Aya just contacted me. She's communicated that Elliot and his niece Savannah can go as her guests and I will now change my RSVP to No. Thanks for all the good thinking. I know you will have a fine day and hope we can do this again soon!

I was really looking forward to coming out with you all, for one of my favourite meals actually, and playing on the beach but will have to look forward to the next time.
I notified our organizer Veg that I have to cancel because just got a chance to go to the Okanagan and be a fruit bear this weekend. My vegan friend Elliot is coming to join you in my place with his niece Savannah. I still don't know if I'm supposed to cancel my RSVP to not get dinged for the late cancellation fee (it's still only Thursday today). Elliot doesn't use email ot facebook and goes under my notifications so seems like he should just go in my place. There used to be a +1 on meetup sites when reserving to bring friends to try it out. If anybody know the protocol, please let me know. I know you it will be a delicious fun time and hope we do a combination eat and play another time soon.

Is this new management / chef, or the same as Whole Vegetarian just a new name? We weren't impressed with the WV dim sum, but would love to try if it's a new chef. Thx.

    July 7, 2013

    • Iya

The same owner. I don't know if the chef is the same or not, though.

I don't like this new direction the restaurant is going in.

Will likely cycle there unless pouring rain so will either cycle slowly or park it and walk. Maybe others who have bicycles might like to bring it. It's such a short distance to bus there, it's either walk for an hour or cycle there in minutes. I will bring my repair/tool kit and pump in case. See you all there as it'll be my first time there.

It should be noted, especially for anyone who hasn't been there yet, that they changed the name of the place (not sure if it's a new company/owner??) to something like Bo Bai Chinese and it has an orange sign. They still have the same menu (as far as I can remember, I've only eaten there twice) but they've added a second, meaty menu, too.

    June 22, 2013

    • Iya

Yeah, sadly they started serving non-veg food. But we will have the same vegan dim sum as before.

      June 22, 2013

  • Charles T.

Yes, it's no longer a vegetarian restaurant but they still have a veg menu.
