The good folks of the WABA(the Washington Area Bicycling Association) is sponsoring another exciting edition of Bike DC. The 2012 edition of the Bike DC will include past favorite scenery of downtown Washington, GW Parkway and new for this year Rock Creek Park. There will be multiple rest stops and numerous on course support for mechanical issues involving bike or rider. It's simply a confluence of all things good: 1) Supporting an uber cool organization(WABA, of course). 2) Experience a rare opportunity to see portions of the Washington and Arlington that's normally not available to bikes(GW Parkway, Jefferson Davis Highway). 3) If reasons #1 and #2 are not enough, there's even a discount for being a VeloDCity member. Please follow the instructions below to get your discount. So what are you waiting for? Sign up already.

Total Distance: 24 miles or 11 miles
Pace: 10 - 20 mph
Highlights: Rock Creek Park, Automobile Free Traffic, GW Parkway.

- All rides are 'No Drop', for nobody will be left behind.
- Helmets , ID, spare tube, bike lock/cable will be required.
- The route will be closed to automobile traffic.
- This is a rain or shine event
- Email me if you have any questions

Bike DC is always a fun event. Sometime things happen but we just have to make the best of it and enjoy ourselves.

Here's a link to a photo montage I created that covers the turn at Rock Creek Parkway to the end of the ride: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHUnJ5_5GbY

Great day for a ride! Bike traffic at GW Pkway split but otherwise, everything was smooth riding!

Delays were not too bad. But next time, I will start at 7:01 or, really take my time and enjoy the scenery.

Hey Chip. Group picture would be nice but it's going to depend on the registration packet pickup. We'll see.

Greg, can we plan to take a group picture around 7:15?

Driving into town and parking defeats the whole purpose of a Bike DC event. We will Metro in from Shady Grove as far as Dupont, then join the ride on Rock Creek at P Street. See you on the course and/or at the finishing brunch.

Good News. The t-shirt coupons have arrived so those of you who ordered t-shirt(s) will receive your coupons at one of the pickups.

Some quick notes: Individual registration is still available online through Saturday May 12th. Unfortunately the group discount has expired and you will have to pay the full registration fee. Packet pickup(s) will be scheduled shortly along with a post race brunch session somewhere downtown.

Hi LeeAnn. Yes, you will be getting your packet from me. I will be scheduling some packet pickup days prior to the start. The locations will be somewhere downtown Washington, Bethesda and Arlington/Alexandria. Details will be posted soon.

I along with a couple friends registered, and I think the confirmation email said bibs and registration items would be sent to the team leader. Do we get our packets from you or from packet pickup the morning of?

    May 3, 2012

  • Gregg

Stephen, There will be some attempt to start as a group. Details will be announced when WABA announces finalized details. Post ride brunch? I agree, it's a good idea and am actively making some plans.

Gregg, Will we be meeting at a particular spot and at least start as a coherent group, or will it be the usual Sportive free-for-all? We're coming in on the Metro, so 7am start is not practical. We will be starting nearer 8am, with the group if possible. An after-ride brunch-event would be nice.
    Stephen.

Just a reminder, the online registration(bikedc.net) and group discount rate will end this Friday(5/4/12) so please take a moment to reserve your spot for this fun event.
