What we're about

This group is dedicated to a variety of recreational outdoor activities, including hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, etc. We may also post invitations to other events such as outdoor-related films, group potlucks, or lectures. Most hikes will be day trips! You will notice events & invitations posted here for treks to the White Mountains, Adirondacks, and our own Green Mountains.

You are encouraged to consider each event as presented, AND to RSVP with a "Yes" or "No". If you agree to attend an Event it is important to pay attention to arrival times, weather issues, carpooling, etc. Please be resourceful: trade phone #'s with the Event's host, communicate your concerns about the event, etc.

Individual Member dues have been suspended indefinitely, BUT your Organizer (Jay) pays to Meetup a subscription fee. Please consider a small contribution to help defray expenses.

If you have an event idea, or an urge to explore somewhere, suggest it yourself and invite others to come along or contact an Event Organizer for advice. Feel free to ask me (Jay) anything, any time.

Let’s go hiking Mount Elmore & grab beers at Three Penny taproom in Montpelier

We'll be hiking atop Mount Elmore (4.6 miles with 1,450 feet elevation gain) and then a quick 1/2 mile (if that!) loop on an interpretive trail. We'll snack near the top where the view is awesome. Bring water (at least 1.5 quart, more if weather is hot), light lunch/snacks, Fido and an extra t-shirt for after the hike. The hiking is entirely in the shade. Directions: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Elmore+State+Park $4 per person entrance fee. Follow direction to trail head. Drive your car to the very end of the dirt road. Do not park at the bottom near the lake. Follow the sign to trailhead; it is well indicated. We'll meet at the trail head at 9:50 am for a 10:00 sharp departure. We will be done by 1pm (probably earlier). Optional after the hike: Grab drink & food at Three Penny Taproom in Montpelier (108 Main Street).
