I received the following from Vinny at Indie Connect. While I try not to deluge you all with emails and announcements, this one sounds like it could be a good thing. Would anyone in the group care to organize this event? I, unfortunately, am spread a bit thin these days and wouldn't be able to do a good job. Email me at [address removed] if you are interested. Here's Vinny's info:
Indie Connect recently opened a new video production and live broadcast studio in Donelson. It is designed to look like a nightclub setting with a stage, lighting etc. Every Saturday from 2-5 we host a free open mic for songwriters and artists and broadcast it live on www.streetjelly.com.
I was wondering if you might be interested in creating a Meetup event around this open mic. You could invite your members to perform 2-3 songs each. For newer writers, it's a great way to get experience performing under lights and in front of cameras. Your members could invite their fans, friends and families to watch them for free on StreetJelly.com. If your members enjoy the experience, we could make it a monthly or quarterly event.
What do we get out of it? We just want people to see the studio so they think of us when they need a music video. Also, we videotape the performances. Any artist who is happy with their show can buy a DVD of it for just $25. We don't push that, but it is an option.
If you are wondering about the quality of the event, you can ask Jimmer (Jim Sandburg). He has been performing every Saturday.
Does this sound like something you would be interested in?
Thanks! Have an amazing day!
