REIN Monthly Meeting- learn, network, share
New Meeting Night -- 4th Wednesday of each month
Our speaker this month will be local attorney & REIN member
Annie is a University of Utah schooled attorney who handles a variety of areas of the law, including advising landlords and tenants of special issues in evictions and tenant terminations, such as technical failures in required notices, the warranty of habitability defense, substantial violations under state law (violent and drug-related crimes), discrimination, retaliation, and domestic violence.
The title and outline of Ms. Murphy's presentation this evening is:
What Landlords Should Do BEFORE Renting a Residential Unit to Avoid Problems LATER
We will learn what should and should not be included on rental applications and in residential rental agreements to avoid problems down the line – such as fair housing complaints and what happens in case of default. The following issues will be included:
- Tenant Screening: what you may ask on the rental application
- Pre-move in: how to protect yourself in case of tenant(s)-related damages
- The Lease: provisions to handle frequently contested issues, liquidated damages
- clause, and modification of implied rights and other legal presumptions
- The Security Deposit: complying with Colorado’s security deposit return law
First time visits to a REIN meeting are always FREE.
2nd meeting and beyond is $10/ 2 family members; or pay a 1 year membership of $65.
Begun in Janaury 2012, we have met every month so a $65 membership for even 1/2 attendance is, as ur member Bruce is fond of saying, 'a good deal'.
We meet monthly at:
Grand Junction Masonic Center, 2400 Consistory Ct., Grand Junction. 6-8 PM
Starting in May 2013 the meeting has moved to the 4th Wednesday of the month.
Please RSVP so we can look forward to seeing you.
Coffee and often some other light refreshments are provided.
If you would like to volunteer to help find topics and speakers, handle meeting check-in and registration, provide refreshments, connect with out of town experts who may want to come here to speak. . . please do not hesitate to volunteer. This is a member-driven group and active member participation is what will continue to make Grand Junction's REIN a success.
