A walk across scotland from east coast to west coast

  • We are arranging a walk across scotland. It is a 10 day walk, each day walking between 8 and 17 miles, stopping in the next village where we will stay at a bed and breakfast. Suitcase or bag will be shipped to next nights accomodation ahead of us, so we only need a day pack, and either bag lunch or stop in a village.
I did reseach and queried 3 different agents, picking one whom seems to be the best. We need to pay a deposit and remainder 6 weeks before. We need to get air flight, and if you want to stay a few days more , you are welcome, other than that the only expenses are meals, and train to get to the start and finish (about total of 100$)
I am reserving a flight on transat on may 16th, stay in edinburgh for 3 nights, travel to perth for the start and at the end stay one night in glasgow before returning to vancouver.

See the van hikers meetup for some more info

If anyone is interested in the Wales trip I posted below, please email me at [masked] so Tom doesn't have to keep receiving these comments. I've also received some information from the agent in a document I could forward. Thanks.

Hi, All. I was hoping to get some info from Tom on which company he's going with, but I haven't heard yet. In any case, I'm a bit concerned about the amount of walking in a given day, with my injury-related issues. How about something different? I came upon this website years ago and I've been thinking about it ever since. http://www.lynotttours.com/b-walkwales.htm I like the idea of parking in a country house and having an option of which hike to do on a given day or having the option to just hang out. It's considerably shorter, but this is just a suggestion. There's lots of companies out there and each offers a wealth of different walks of various lengths. I suggest we get together and sit in front of a computer somewhere and explore the options. Also, if I go as far as the UK, I'd hop over to Hungary to visit the relatives, if others care to explore there.

Thanks, Tom. Found it. http://www.macsadvent... The reviews are worth a read. My navigation experience is pretty much zilch. Note the 'Is this tour for me?' comment on the right side down the page.

I signed up for Van Hikers just to get some info. There's a maximum of 10 and there's already 22 signed up on that meetup, pending receipt of deposit. Unless Tom has plans for a 2nd and 3rd group of 10, this is looking unlikely. Intro for this one posted as:

"Interested in flying to scotland, and starting at perth, scotland, on the east coast , hike an average 10-15 miles per day, to take 11 days to get to fort william , scotland on the west coast , under the control of a tour company which will provide the suitcase transport and lodging. We have an agreement to arrive in perth, scotland on may 20, ending may 30th. Ideal for a transat flight to glasgow on the 16th, spend a few days before, then leave one day later. I e may 16th to may 31st

We have space for 10 in b&b , to reserve we need a deposit of 166 gbp, or about 295$ , costs 854 for flight, 1500$ for tour accomodation, some 110$ , and meals and other costs."

Vivian, I imagine it would be no different than going with Tom's group. My suggestion would be to go with a company, same as Tom's arrangement. I'm told that these companies give maps and easy to follow directions. I certainly wouldn't just go look for a trail and follow it in a strange country.

There is very little accomodation in these areas so a group of 10 is the limit. I have arranged deposits for the trip, so i is confirmed, as soon as all the b&b's are booked by the agent. Once that is done we will start with the rest of it. Ie flights and so forth.

Hello, I went on a Great Britain tour with Trafalgar a couple of years ago and happened upon the Hadrian wall. Was told that there are hiking tours for that. Is yours one of those?

Tom, there's a number of groups called something like Van Hikers. If you're referring to the one literally called VanHikers, it's only visible to members. Could you please post some more info here? Like price, most particularly? This looks very tempting. Thanks.
