Do you have an irrational fear of walking the dog on a Wednesday, perhaps you are a member of a secret society that meets on a Wednesday or you are just so darn tuckered out on Wednesday that you can't attend the regular riverbank walk?
Well good news! Due to popular demand, there is now another evening stroll along the Hutt Riverbank, but on a THURSDAY! (I know, whatever will they think of next.)
This walk is about 4km return or about an hour there and back. You can take it as fast or slow as you wish, or even just run around in the park or watch the keen dogs (and possibly humans) take a swim in the river at one of the excellent swimming spots.
As this is a council designated dog exercise area, your dog doesn’t need to be on a lead but it does need to be under control, and you are required to carry a leash.
There is parking at both ends, however the Melling end can get quite busy at times, so we will start at the Kennedy Good Bridge. If coming from the South along SH2 you take the right lane past Kelson, turn right at the lights onto Fairway Drive as if heading to Avalon then immediately turn right into Belmont Domain. Turn left at the little roundabout and head down the back of the school to the riverside parking area. If you went over the bridge, you've missed it!
ALGAE WARNINGS: There have been incidents of Toxic Algae in the Hutt River during the hotter months which can prove fatal if ingested by dogs. Weekly assessment of toxic algae cover is being undertaken at 20 popular swimming sites around the region and if any signs are found we will postpone until the river is clear.
