What we’re about
See legal disclaimer at bottom of text. EVERYONE MAY NOW JOIN THE GROUP EXCEPT THOSE FEW WHO WERE BANNED. Walking or hiking. Meet other local people who are interested in walking or hiking for fitness and learning about San Francisco's history, including its movie history. This walking group is unique. It is primarily a health group with a dash of history talk for flavor. It is for people in average physical shape who need restroom stops and not for athletes or people with serious medical conditions.
We keep our group together. We go on many different urban walks, in the best areas, that vary greatly in amounts of climbing and history facts. We walk at a leisurely pace and enjoy the scenery.
Our walks are usually 5 to 7 miles and might be called urban hiking. Our routes are well planned with good restroom stops properly spaced. We avoid stinky port-a-potties. Though we mainly walk in SF we also walk in Oakland, Piedmont, Sausalito, Berkeley & Alameda.
We always take roll and if more than 20 attendees we give all a name tag. Attendance is usually unlimited and has ranged from 1 to 112 on July 5th, 2015. Kids and cameras very welcome. Dogs and other pets are not welcome. Also, smoking is not allowed on the walks as this is a health group. Occasionally we visit science and nature places. 99 out of every 100 doctors say "JOIN THIS GROUP!"
Our "group photo" was taken May 26th, 2018 at our "Berkeley Rose Garden & Cragmont Rock Park Walk."

See all- A Walk in Concord's Hidden Gems: Parks & TrailsRockridge BART Plaza, Oakland, CA
We had to cancel our March 30th Concord walk because of rain, so we are rescheduling it for Saturday, April 20th. This is a free walk. Bring water and a sack lunch. Estimated walking distance is between 4 and 5 miles. Mainly flat, only one hill. Max attendance = 36. One guest allowed.
To maximize convenience & safety we are giving attendees a choice to join our group at 2 different locations & times on our way to the walk's starting point. In chronological order: Location #1 is at Rockridge BART. Location #2 is at the bus section of Concord BART. There is plenty of parking near the Concord BART.
This is the 2nd time we do this walk which is an unusual walk because not many people walk here despite its great views and hidden places. The 1st time we did this walk we had a starting location #3, inside the park, but many attendees did not realize that we were ending the walk at Concord BART and not at location #3.
How to find me: I am a tall man, wear a blue-black hat, and will be carrying a clip board to take roll.
We will first meet at the bottom of the stairs at the Rockridge BART Station at 10:00 AM. After a few minutes we will walk upstairs and wait for the BART train bound for the Concord BART Station. That train is expected to arrive at Rockridge at 10:18 AM.
The scheduled arrival time at Concord BART Station is 10:41 AM. We will exit the train and walk to the bus arrival section. There we will wait for the 310 Bus, expected to arrive at 10:49 AM.
The 2nd location choice for attendees to join our group is at Concord's BART bus arrival section. Everyone should be aware of the 310 Bus arrival time because our train may be a little late. If attendees don't get on the 10:49 AM bus in time they will have to wait 40 minutes for the next bus.
The bus will take us East on Clayton Road and we will get off the bus at Newhall Parkway. Then we will walk South on Newhall Parkway for 2 blocks to the entrance of Newhall Park. We expect to arrive at about 11:15 AM. On the left is a parking lot & on the right are the park's restrooms.
Below are links to 2 maps that show exactly where these restrooms are. Both show the location in red:
Newhall Community Park, 1351 Newhall Pkwy, Concord, CA - MapQuest
1351 Newhall Pkwy - Google MapsHugo and I tested this new walk 3 times. I knew this walk would be good, but it is better than I expected because of the spectacular views. Both of us are in awe of this walk.

Photos for Newhall Community Park (yelp.com)This park of 126 acres has almost everything one can imagine. Also, amazing is how few people know about this park and other parks in Concord.
After exploring this park, we will walk West on trails next to the Galindo Creek. Then we visit the Markham Nature Park-Arboretum, another amazing park. Below is a link:
Markham Nature Park and Arboretum (markhamarboretum.org)
Here we will eat our sack lunches. Then we will walk further West to visit another park, the Concord Community Park, which has among other things a water bottle loader. Then we keep walking West to the Concord BART Station ending at 3:30 PM and return home.
This walking group is for humans only. No dogs or other animals allowed.
