Call for Artists - UBUNTU

  • Aug 6, 2012 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

As a philosophy Ubuntu means that my well being is dependent upon your well being. Ubuntu is a Bantu word that captures a traditional African philosophy that offers us an understanding of ourselves in relation with the world. According to Ubuntu, there exists a common bond between us all. It is through this bond, through our interaction with our fellow human beings, that we discover our own human qualities. This show will feature expressions of our interdependence and connectedness as a global community.

This show is open to all visual artists, authors, musicians and poets to participate. The show runs from August 26th through Sept 16th. If you would like to participate in the show, please contact me (Tony Asta, the organizer) by August 6th.

Hi, I'm a singer/songwriter and would be happy to participate. I'm from South Africa originally, and can contribute songs in English and Afrikaans, that are inspired by my experiences in South Africa and the US.

OK. I don't think I have anything like that in my current creations. I could try and come up with something. All that occurs at the moment is the ( perhaps ) somewhat trite images of a handshake or circle of drummers etc. Maybe I'll just come and be an observer of others' material / contributions since I'll be a noob anyway, and thus have an excuse. ;-) I'm certainly OK with the concept itself, don't get me wrong...

Sorry I wasn't clear. The art is to be reflective of or be an expression of Ubuntu

So...umm...are the paintings / sculptures etc. supposed to be reflective somehow of ubuntu ? Or is that your "gallery philosophy" ? ;-)
