Come enjoy the peak blooming season of the lotus and waterlilies in DC's Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens. This serene oasis set in the middle of DC is a feast for the eyes at this time of year, not to mention your camera. The park itself features greenhouses, ponds, and a short boardwalk trail through the tidal marshes. The annual festival will offer special garden and greenhouse tours as well as workshops, plenty of children's activities, and Asian cultural events focused on the lotus. Previous years have included dance demonstrations from the Burma American Buddhist Association, Korean food, lotus lantern making, art competitions, face painting, and other family-friendly activities.
While I have been to the park several times before, I have never attended the festival. I'm looking forward to enjoying it with you all! Be prepared to wander together and meetup again according to your interests; I will not have an itinerary planned once we are there.
You will definitely want to bring your camera. You may also want bug repellent or sunscreen. I know that there has been food there in previous years, but I do not know if that is the case every year. There are no other food facilities around, so you may want to bring a snack and water with you.
For those of you taking metro, I will be at Deanwood metro station (orange line) at 10:30 AM with a Meetup sign. It is a 10 minute walk to the park. For those of you driving, there is free parking at the Gardens. We will plan to meet you by 11:00 AM between the parking lot and the main entrance. Just prior to the event, I will email those attending with my cell number in the event that you need to contact me.
