I almost got it down but Tom (instructor) said I needed to relax more...but it was a very good class and very one on one.

To whom do I address questions relating to recommended & required gear for this event? Will the session take place on 3 successive Saturdays? Thanks!

Thanks, Deke. I'll watch for the next one.

I had to work this weekend.
Any way I can go to the 9th and 16th sessions?

    March 2, 2013

    • Deke

I do not know if you can still sign up now that the 3-week session has started. Check Parktakes. In a Google search, the first thing found when searching "Parktakes Rolling" takes you to the sign up.

FYI, I can no longer find the rolling classes on Parktakes to I presume it is too late to sign up.

  • Deke

FYI, I added folks to the "attending list" if they signed up for this month's classes OR already participated during the past 2 months of rolling classes just to show what kind of participation there was from this club in the 3 sets of rollings classes at Lee District. If I added you to the attending list, it did not mean you were participating necessarily in this month's set of 3 classes. Sorry if I made this all confusing, just like to show the interest in the event (thanks to Madeline for organizing).

I'm just a bit confused I called earlier today and Lee Rec is having kayaking rolling lessons (Parktakes) tonight 6:00 pm--3 Saturday classes ending 16 March...Or is this a different set of class altogether?

    March 2, 2013

    • Deke

The set of 3 classes starts this evening and goes for the following 2 Saturday evenings (3/2, 3/9, 3/16). So by setting this event's date as the last rolling class, it gives the event an end date.

      March 2, 2013

  • Deke

I set the date and time of this event to the last date of the rolling classes (so the event does have an "ending").

If you have questions about instructions, I know Mike Aronoff will be able to answer your questions. [masked]

Kayak and rolling go together like peas and carrots...glad to so such interest! :-)

I signed up for the Saturday evening sessions in March, hoping I'll still remember what I learned when we hit the water in the spring.

I am a fairly newbie who would love to learn to roll. I would be going to Fairland. Any instruction available?

    December 6, 2012

  • Julian K.

Madeline, are these pool practice sessions or actual lessons?

    1 · December 1, 2012

    • Julian K.

As another option, Fairland Acquatic Center in Laurel, MD. Will have pool practice nights on 12/29, 3/2, 3/9, 3/16, 3/30, 4/6, 4/13, and 4/27 from 4:00-5:30 & 6:00-7:45. Fee is $7.00 payable at front desk and kayak must be "dirt free".

I'm interested, but I'm away a fair number of weekends. Will there be multiple dates offered?

    December 1, 2012

      December 2, 2012

I will think about it..I could use lessons, thanks for the post! know of anything near the Annapolis area?

    December 1, 2012

    • Madeline

Tammy, you would have to check with Anne Arundel Parks- these are indoor pool classes. Otherwise, check in with Annapolis Canoe and Kayak in Eastport. They would have info.

The Chesapeake Paddlers Assn maintains a list of local rolling sessions here: http://www.cpakayaker...

  • Dennis

Thanks for the link and info.
QUESTION: Do you know if their facility and classes can handle touring size/18-foot kayaks? Or, should I plan on renting one? Thanks

    December 1, 2012

    • Madeline

Good question, as I'll be bringing my 17 foot. I've seen pics with long boats in the water, I'd say yes. Once they post the instructor's name, maybe you can ask

      December 1, 2012

    • Jesse

The answer is absolutely yes. I've been there for the past several years and it's mostly sea kayakers.
