About the job:
As a UNIX Systems Administrator with Rocket Software, you are part of a global, high-paced IT organization with a primary mission to provide world class service to software development labs and ensure our employees have state of the art tools to perform as the highest level. The successful candidate will be responsible for Solaris, AIX Unix, HP-UX and Linux-based server builds, coordinating rack/stack of servers in data center, loading the OS, building of file systems, loading standard monitoring and backup packages. Additional responsibilities include working with the global IT organization to ensure uniform documentation and standards are followed. Knowledge of Sun and AIX virtualization is critical.

Develop and maintain the integrity and security of Unix-based production systems in a 24/7 environment
Install and assist with administering mission-critical software such as databases and IVM/VIO Server
Take lead in the development of standards, procedures, and tools that standardize the functioning of the systems and software and in accordance with company standards and industry best practices
Develop and expand UNIX/Windows integration, authentication via AD; understand use of sudo and automount maps
Evaluate and install new software releases, perform system upgrades, evaluate and install patches and resolve system related problems
Develop and maintain adequate backup processes and procedures for all production systems
Perform installation and troubleshooting of disks, NICs, memory modules, CPUs, and other hardware
Work with other IT staff members to automate management tasks, streamline processes and perform standard administration functions as needed
Maintain file systems, administer users, groups, passwords, and other aspects of security
Monitor system logs and activities on all servers
Provide scripting/programming support for all major projects

5+ years of experience working with Solaris and AIX including associated hardware required
Support of larger 200+ system data centers in a hands-on role required
Working knowledge of VMware ESXi required
Strong familiarity with SAN technologies, including both fiber and iSCSI implementations
System administration experience with AIX and Solaris Virtualization technologies
Complete understanding of LVM, NFS, SAMBA, CIFS, ZFS, LDAP and LDOM/zones
Ability to conduct system analysis and development with limited support from management staff
Solid understanding of networking concepts and configuration: the OSI model, TCP, IP, routing, firewalls, Ethernet, ATM, Frame Relay, and serial connections
Ability and motivation to learn new technologies quickly and with minimal support and guidance
Effective written and verbal communication skills; desire and ability to document configurations in support of a larger team
Good interpersonal skills with a strong focus on listening and questioning to derive the best solutions
Ability to present ideas and concepts in a team environment that values data-driven decisions
Strong project management skills and attention to details with a customer focus is critical

Experience with CFEngine and Nagios highly sought
IBM & EMC Storage Area Network administration experience preferred
Knowledge and/or desire to support Microsoft Widows technologies in a failover capacity
Experience with Subversion, CVS and other code repository and version control applications in a distributed environment a plus
Experience with data replication, disaster recovery and business continuity planning a plus
