  • Easy as the Web

    Antistatique

The Web is so simple, yet we often create cumbersome solutions. When the developer’s experience is balanced over user’s experience, we may lose what's valuable in the process. This talk will try to look at our brief web history to find patterns and loops. The goal of this talk is to create together a more resilient Web, to understand the value of the Web and how we can build a more sustainable heritage. I consider myself a Web dinosaur, let's not condemn ourself too quickly to extinction. If you still hesitate to come, an aperitif will be offered to the attendees: beers, chips, popcorn & more ! • 3-Way Web: Getting Javascript, C++ and Python to interact together all at once

Due to internal constraints, we’ve had to replace our old C++ UI made of spaghetti code with a new Javascript UI. We’ve also had to create Python bindings to our C++ backend so that mathematicians, physicists and biologists could pilot and script our software. But Python also makes a great backend for a web platform! In this talk, we’ll explore how we can get those 3 languages to interact in an event-driven manner, and I’ll share what worked and didn’t work with our approach. Speaker Paul Habfast Lead Engineer & Head of Cloud Services by Nanolive (SA) ---- If you still hesitate to come, an aperitif will be offered to the attendees: beers, chips, popcorn & more 🙌🏻 Can’t make it ? • Laravel – The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

    EPFL Innovation Park

Loved by many for its simplicity, shunned by others for the shortcuts it takes, Laravel remains one of the leading PHP frameworks in 2019 and its rise in popularity show no signs of stopping. Chances are high that you have already encountered it in a project, or that you'll have to maintain an application that uses it at some point in the future. This is why it makes sense for any PHP developer to get acquainted with it in order to make informed technical decisions when starting new projects. In this talk we will aim to outline Laravel's key strengths while also discussing some of its more irritating aspects, together with inputs from members of the audience that wish to share their thoughts or experiences. This evening should therefore be of interest both for newcomers to Laravel as well as those that are well versed with it. Speaker Raphaël Saunier Software Engineer at Axa ---- If you still hesitate to come ;) an aperitif will be offered to the attendees: beers, chips, popcorn & more. You can’t attend? • Managing your cloud infrastructure as code with Terraform

Managing infrastructures on the cloud can sometimes be a headache. Cloud providers web interfaces can be powerful tools but might be confusing and lead to configuration errors when you’re managing a lot of virtual machines or resources. HashiCorp’s Terraform is an open source tool that enables you to safely and predictably create, change, and improve infrastructure. Using declarative configuration files that can be shared amongst team members, Terraform files and projects can be treated as code, edited, reviewed, and versioned. In short, Terraform allows its users to define a datacenter infrastructure in a high-level configuration language on the Cloud provider of his choice. In this talk, we’ll discover how Terraform works, how to write Terraform (HCL) files and how to deploy resources on the cloud with some practical examples. If you want to deploy your websites and applications on AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, Digital Ocean or another cloud provider, this talk might just be for you.
