Over Under Sideways Down: Explore Winnipeg's Downtown!

This free, guided, two-hour walking tour starts at 10 AM near the Exchange District in the little park on Notre Dame across from the Burton Cummings Theatre.

Winnipeg has always had a complicated relationship with its downtown, and this will be a wonderful opportunity to explore both its past and more current history.

Exploring a small part of a fascinating urban centre as we loop through the downtown, we’ll see firsthand the impact of competing commercial interests on downtown street design and residential development.

We’ll visit two vibrant and revitalized urban parks, learn about some of Winnipeg’s early years, briefly stroll above the sidewalks inside Winnipeg’s maze of elevated walkways and finally, head underground at Portage and Main, the city’s most famous intersection.

In between, we’ll discover some stunning public art, see some beautiful architecture, visit buildings both old and new, and perhaps rediscover some of the gems that make this the ‘heart of the city”.

Local Winnipegger Rob Shaw will be your engaging host for this free, fun, and fabulous walking tour.

Note: While the walk is intended to be accessible to anyone with a reasonable fitness level, comfortable shoes are recommended, as we will be walking on sidewalks, occasionally up and down stairs, and even hopping into the occasional elevator.

Very enjoyable, informative, and fun! A little too fast for me but you didn't seem to mind waiting while we all caught up.
