End of Winter Ride Series

Wilder Ranch SP

We're setting the clocks forward again so let's kick off our extended daylight hours with a ride out at Wilder Ranch SP. As I mentioned before we're going to make this a longer ride than my usual Wilder rides (usually 12mi.) I think we'll shoot for about 20, maybe a little less, maybe more. Either way my intended route will be posted up so you can see what I have in store. We've had a great Winter riding season with very little rain and some great new rides from a few of our other ride leaders. This ride will mark the end of our Winter ride series and the beginning of our Spring/Summer season complete with after work rides. I hope those of you that have discovered riding with SJMtb will continue to do so and to tell your friends.

As of writing this post, the ride is full. So if you missed the cut off get on the wait list as I'm sure people will drop off by the time the ride happens. It's sure to be a great way for us to start off the season. I'm super stoked!

After the ride stick around if you can, as we'll be heading into town for some post ride drinks and food. Maybe Krista knows a great post ride burrito spot.

Ride Route:

coming soon...

Ride Rating:

Adv. Beginner C pace: Slower but without as many breaks as a typical C paced ride.

Tech 5/10: Some root sections and root drop offs but mostly flowing single track with fire road climbs

Phys 6/10: 20 miles is a long ride for most so be ready with plenty of snacks and water.

Dist 20mi.

2000ft+ gain.

As always a helmet is required for all SJMTB rides and extra protective gear is recommended if you are tentative about riding down rocky trails. If the ride is relatively short so you shouldn't need too much in the way of supplies. Water, a small snack, and your basic trail side tools (multi-tool, tube, pump) should be sufficient for these rides. Longer rides will require a bit more in the way of water and supplies. If you've got questions please contact the ride organizer or refer to the links below.

Let's get out and ride,

David

Bummed. Sorry for the no-show. David did you get my text? I was on my way and stopped in Los Gatos for gas, realized I didn't have my wallet. Couldn't get there before 10:45 at that point, and wasn't sure if I could catch up.
Note to self: Have things together the night before.

No worries Rick, I did get your text, but not until we were already rolling. That sucks about the wallet thing. I've had my share of forgetful days too. Hope to see you out there again soon.

Spectacularly awesome trail conditions and weather. It did require a full-on PB&J, apple and two powerbar breaks to get her done, but IT GOT DONE reeeeaaaal good!

AWESOME stats, bro! And that included TWO times around Enchanted Forest and Zane Gray. ZG #2 was maximized at hyperdrive warp speed, big time!

I was out there pretty early getting in 30 miles since the list was full.

I might've just missed you all. But it was pretty awesome today, and Zane (at least when I was there this morning) was packed on the way down, Enchanted was crazy sticky and fun. Couldn't have been more awesome (except for my chain digging into my frame when it slipped).

Sorry to hear that you didn't get a spot on the ride Chris, we had tons of room because people didn't show and cancelled late last night. In the future if you wait list I'll usually open up the rsvps to add wait list people knowing that there are always no-shows. Glad you got out for a ride there today anyhow. It was amazing out there.

No worries, I tend to move/go pretty fast at Wilder so I went for speed.

Sounds like you had a great time today...would've tried to come out had it not been the fact the list was full. Next time!

Yeah Larry I'm a little disappointed that we had a full ride yesterday and only five showed up today. Next time sign up for the wait list and I'll do my best to get you on the ride.

What happened to the rest of y'all? Words simply cannot fully describe the awesomeness you missed today. Hopefully it is just a sign of things to come. 2013... our best year ever.

Holy Cow!!! What an amazingly awesome and perfect day. It literally could not have been any better. The trails were perfect, just damp enough to provide perfect traction with out causing a mess. Our first loop was great. We kept moving at a pretty good pace and enjoyed some awesome views and flow. Props to Louis and Richard for sticking with us the whole way, never falling very far behind if at all. Enchanted was perfect loamy and super fast. Zane was insane! And if our first loop was amazing our second loop was full on epic-ness. Baldwin was a total bear after that many miles in, and was way harder than I remember. Then we hit Enchanted and Zane for a second loop. This time it was like we were capturing the true essence of our inner Ness. I rode Dean's wheel all the way down Zane and we just fed off each other's energy. And Fredrik pushed hard and kept up with us. Our second loop may have seen our original group shrink to three but we were a very in sync three.

Oh man. More than 26 miles today. Only 3 of us left at the end. I definitely need to train hard now or at least stop fueling my rides with junk food. David and Dean are endurance monsters.

6000' climb today. Want do to do this but didn't expect to go that far. Sad to miss it

Out of common courtesy. I shall delete my comment. I'm sorry you got hurt by that.

    March 9, 2013

    • David

      I'm confused... who got hurt?

      March 9, 2013

  • David

Guys this is going to be an easier ride. Terrain wise we'll still hit all the fun stuff but I'll keep my speed in check. If we need to send the fast ones off ahead that's fine I'll stick back with the chill crew and enjoy the view.
