Wilder Ranch for Everyone C Pace

Let's all get together for a social C pace ride at beautiful Wilder Ranch State Park in Santa Cruz- before it rains so much we can't- and decide which way to go when we get there.

If you haven't been to Wilder Ranch yet here's your chance!

Wilder Ranch offers a little bit of everything for our mountain biking pleasure.

There will be some climbing of fire roads in the beginning and we will take our time with that as it will serve as the perfect warm up. After the climb we are blessed with the singletrack we so desire.

There are some fun and fast single track opportunities that will allow for the speedy people to go ahead of the slower people. We will stop for breaks whenever needed, but will always meet at the end of a section. Be prepared for some rocky and rutted-out down hill singletrack too.

Wilder Ranch entrance is on the left side of highway 1, about 1.5 miles west of Santa Cruz. There is a large turnout on the side of the highway near the Wilder entrance and parking there can save you $10. After you park, you’ll have to go up the road just a bit and turn left to go up into the Wilder Ranch fee parking lot. Paying to park will help support Wilder Ranch. Sometimes I ride my bike in from town as I live nearby in Santa Cruz. We will meet at the pay parking area. Restrooms are available there.

RIDE RATING

PACE: C

TECH: 6 or 7 in some areas

PHYS:5+

MILEAGE: 10-16 miles

ELEVATION: Approx. 1600 feet

As always a helmet is required for all SJMTB rides and extra protective gear is recommended if you are tentative about riding down rocky trails. Water, a small snack, and your basic trail side tools (multi-tool, tube, pump) should be sufficient for these rides. Longer rides will require a bit more in the way of water and supplies.

Monster ride! Never had done a 5-6 hour ride before. Knee damage, tooth damage, borderline bonking, feeling disoriented, legs turning into lead. Then burger and all was well again. Plus hanging out with some of the coolest people around. Yep! Life's good! :o)

Someday I'll get tired of using this adjective for SJMTB rides, but this is not the day. "AWESOME"!

Gonna to try to come out 'n ride, but Friday is my busiest day at the shop, so I often work late, making sat mornings difficult.
Looking fwd to a gorgeous day on the trails! I may decide to break off from the group at the top(if we make it that far), become renegade and ride a singletrack back down to the coast. WooHoo!
