Sea Otter Classic 2013

Sign up now if you're going to participate in any of the rides... I don't know if I'll be doing the camping thing again this year as it was a bit crowded last year with 8 people in a single spot.  I may get a spot for my wife and I though.  So if you'd like to camp out let me know maybe we can coordinate and get spots near one another.

Otherwise I'll see you all out at the expo on Saturday and racing on Sunday.  Last year was a great time so I hope to see some more of you out this time.

Pre-ride on Friday and Race ride on Sunday were so totally different stress levels from one another. I was so relaxed on Friday putting around and Sunday my heart rate was already hitting 160 warming up on the trak before the start. All in all a wonderful weekend but I really didn't see anyone till I ran into Watani washing his bike Sunday afternoon at one of the Muc-Off stations.

LOL, I know what you mean Armando. Racing just puts you in whole different mind set. I didn't race nearly as aggressively as I would have needed to for a better finish but I stayed on the bike (save for the times I choose to get off) and cleaned all but the wall as far as climbs. All in all a great day. I walked past you as you were on your way to the parking lot, but you were talking with a buddy and didn't hear me. I kept running into Watani as well all weekend. Other than that I think I only saw Eric, Tu, and Cary during the race.

It was really cool running into you guys - I was hoping I would! So yeah, racing is a whole different beast. Always redlining most of the course for me.

I finally made it home after 3 days there. Camping with my son was cool.

How about the SoNoMas race? I'm supposed to do the sequoia century, but I might sell the entry http://www.bikemonkey...

I'm likely going to head out there both Saturday and Sunday, but probably won't be staying over. Just want to get the most out of the expo like last year. If anyone racing Cat 3 on Sunday wants to tag along let me know.

I'll be racing cat 3 xc... So not ready!

I haven't registered yet - usually wait until the last minute just before they increase it - just in case I get injured. I'll most likely get a motel and be there f-su. I'll be racing for podium in XC cat 3. I doubt I'll make that but, it's my goal. I'll be happy with top 10 though.

2013 XC cat 3 course will be same as 2012. Cat 2 will be the same with the exception of 1 new single track (I think it's also a new single track at fort ord).

Sundays are the best days to buy anything. Most vendors are trying to get rid of their stock before heading back to their headquarters. If you've ridden fort ord a few times, you should race it - it's only right?! Give yourself bragging rights! And there's plenty of time to train for it too. Focus on doing a lot of climbing and you'll do fine. If I can do my 1st race ever, sea otter classic, with just 6 laughable miles of training, YOU CAN DO IT TOO with all the riding you've already done!!!

I'm registered Cat 2 XC this year (such a fool, I am). I also have already nabbed one campsite @$210 for 3 nights. Open to sharing it with probably 2 other tents. As DavidB says, it gets a bit crowded

    December 19, 2012

    • David R.

What campsite area & number do you have?

      December 23, 2012

    • Mark A.

Ok. So David and David are in for my site and that's all the space we got

Krista, I recommend signing up for the XC race. They divide it into Beginner, Intermediate, and Professional as well as age. They also have a huge festival/expo that is fun to roam around and check out all the bicycle vendor tents. It's a lot of fun!

Racing XC w/ no ambitions. Will be staying overnight on Sat. nite

    December 19, 2012

I signed up for the XC race with no intention of getting on the podium. I just want to participate in the spectacle of it all. I plan on going Friday to pre-ride the course and take in the festivities but not going on Saturday.
