By popular request Stebbins Gulch Holden Arboretum 10:00 Saturday February 15
This will be a Holden Naturalist led hike. Stebbins Gulch is accessible as a guided group and only in limited numbers.
Directions to Holden Arboretum (http://www.holdenarb.org/visit/directions.asp)
We meet at the Holden Visitors Center prior to 10:00 Saturday morning. Please arrive in enough time to get ready. There is a $ 7 charge per person fee for the hike. I will collect the fee at the Visitors Center. At 10:00 we will carpool the short distance to the Stebbins Gulch trail head.
Please come dressed and prepared for a typical winter hike. The hike is along the rocky edges and over the frozen creek.. The trail will be snow covered and icy.
Hiking sticks are very useful. Waterproof boots that can tolerate stream crossing are suggested. There is always a possibility of a wet foot so some dry socks when you change from your hiking boots could feel very good.
Bring your camera the Gulch can be dramatic.
The number of hikers in our party is limited so if you RSVP and if discover you cannot come please decline so all who want to hike are able. We will set up a waiting list.
Stebbins Gulch is the crown jewel of the Holden Arboretum's natural areas and one of the most unspoiled in Northeast Ohio. It is also one of the best day hikes in Ohio. The gorge is up to 200 feet deep and up to 500 feet wide. It has six waterfalls, two of which are about 20 feet tall. Dramatic icicles and ice caves form on the 75 foot sandstone cliffs.
Please come prepared to enjoy the day.
