This coming SUNDAY at 11AM, meet at the Lawrence Red Line Stop.

Let's head north for a walk back in time to the Uptown neighborhood, visiting places like the Aragon Ballroom (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aragon_Ballroom_(Chicago)), Uptown Theater (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uptown_Theatre_(Chicago)) and Green Mill nightclub (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Mill_Cocktail_Lounge)! Along the way, we'll catch a glimpse of Chicago's other Chinatown (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Argyle_Street_Historic_District), the Lakewood Balmoral Historic District (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lakewood_Balmoral_Historic_District) and even a stretch of Andersonville (http://www.andersonville.org/) along Clark Street, passing by places like Georgie's Ice Cream (http://www.georgesicecreamandsweets.com/), Simon's Tavern (http://www.chibarproject.com/Reviews/Simon's/Simon's.htm) or the Swedish American Museum (http://www.swedishamericanmuseum.org/). After walking right by Charlie Chaplin's Essanay Studios (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Essanay_Studios) complex, we'll finish off with a drink at Green Mill and/or some Dim Sum at Furama on Broadway (http://www.furamachicago.com/html/general.html)!

The weather (http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?CityName=Chicago&state=IL&site=LOT&lat=41.837&lon=-87.685#.Ud8MIWTwLvg) is supposed to be excellent ...... so come on out and enjoy the afternoon with the Windy City Explorers!

This walk is approximately 3 miles long, following this route:

Here's a video of some Capone-Era tunnels underneath our walk route. Too bad we cannot all take a tour down there! This video is the next best thing!

Below is a video documentary of the Uptown Theater. The video can be a bit slow at times, but watch it all the way through to understand the one-time glory of this structure. How sad to see the condition of this place today!

Here is a Chicago Tribune Article about grand plans for restoration of this theater.
