Open House Chicago!!! (Sunday)

I have uploaded specific details concerning our meeting place and route.

Please click this link to view the latest details!!

Open House Chicago is an amazing event run by the Chicago Architecture Foundation where literally dozens of private spaces are open for public inspection! Join your friends of the Windy City Explorers as we set out on a tour of these open houses! For all the details, please see this link!

More information will be forthcoming as our plans progress. Generally speaking, a group of us will meet for breakfast (come at 8am for breakfast) and then head out at 9am to visit as many places as we can possibly fit into the day!!  You can join us for as much or as little of our tour as possible.  It is likely that we will divide up into a number of different smaller groups, each heading out on preferred routes. For those that do wish to parade 'en masse' to these places, that might be a fun option as well; but we'll be subject to limits as to how many people can enter at any given time per the rules of the event.

Please be advised that some of you in the group will receive priority, short-line access to these venues because you are members of Chicago Architecture Foundation.  If you want to bypass the longer lines and keep up with our group, then you'll need to join the Chicago Architecture Foundation!  This is worth every penny of your support and gives you access to many free tours and other benefits all year long! Membership Link.

Loved the tour, but especially wonderful view from the Cliff Dwellers. There is so much to see in Chicago, so many companies that make this city great. Quite impressive.

Meet at 9am on the West side of the backstage entrance to the Pritzger Pavilion. If you arrive late then come on down to the backstage area.

I went to the downtown buildings last year. I'll be going to the northside (Lincoln Park & Uptown) this weekend.

Sorry but as it turns out, I can't make it at 9am. I won't be able to join the group. I will get downtown with a friend, but it will be later that morning.

I participated in the Open House last year with a group. We decided to focus on about 8 places that were easily reachable by foot which were located west and east of Michigan Avenue around the Magnificent Mile area such as Lake Point Tower, the Tribune Tower and The Richard Driehaus Museum. The Driehaus Museum is a must see! Hope there is a plan in place a head of time.

Here is a link to the list of sites: http://www.openhousechicago.org/sites/
Obviously, we could never hit them all! If you'd like to suggest a few for the route, please post a comment.

Blu Aqua Bldg; Columbia Yacht Club; Auditorium would all be interesting to me. Just a suggestion!

Sounds a little too pricey for the day if we want to stay with the group

Kathie, I am certain there will be a sub-group of non-members who join us without paying the CAF Membership Fee. We like to try to accommodate everyone and there will likely be plenty of people who don't want to pay for the priority access. I am also certain that some of the venues may not have lines at all!! Please join us!!
