Hey it's time to let your artistic side out! We're going to meet at the Young at Art Pottery Studio in The Heights and let the paint fly, so to speak...Young at Art has ceramic pieces priced from $2 to $60, with the average cost of $20. They have a large selection of pieces, from decorative to functional (plates, cups, etc.). Come and paint a bowl for chips or chili, a platter for cheese and crackers, a coffee cup or beer mug, food bowls for your Chihuahua or Rottweiler or just a whimsical conversation piece...although I promise we'll TRY not to make fun of even the least artistic endeavors!
Review of Young at Art:
Woohoo! This was fun!
Laura, the owner, was fantastic and soooo helpful.
SELECTION: There are dishes and ceramics of all varieties there, even modern square plates & platters-- she said she keeps the same inventory in stock all the time, so say you wanted to create a collection, you'd always have the same supplies at your disposal. She also has many non-dining pieces as well.
PRICE: it varies depending on your tastes but generally,~ $24/dinner plate, ~$17/salad plate, ~$40/serving platter. Those prices include all the supplies you need & the firing of your piece.
I'd budget about 2 hours for painting, though it depends on your speed, of course. All pieces take about a week to be fired so this is not something that you leave with when you paint it. But, don't worry, it's in good hands.
Of all the paint your own pottery places in Houston, this is by far the coolest.
This is a BYOB/Mixed Guys AND Gals event, so please bring your drink of choice, be it wine or imported beer...and a wine glass...and be ready to share...
We'll paint until 8pm, then move over to Collina's for dinner.....
