Wiiliamsburg (Brooklyn) has nearly completed its transformation into a land of boutiques, chain stores, and Michelin-starred restaurants. We'll attempt one more survey of the remaining galleries. This tour will end with a reception at Front Room Gallery, for their final day in Williamsburg. We can relax after our exhaustive survey of 3 or 4 local art spaces (sarcasm alert), have a glass of wine, mingle and conversate. No (well not too much) crying allowed.
As we proceed along our crawl, we will silently remember the following Williamsburg art spaces that have closed (in order to have an Apple Store and a Whole Foods):
Art 101 (R.I.P. Ellen Rand)
Black & White Gallery (moved to Bushwick)
Causey Contemporary (moved to Dumbo, then suspended)
Cotton Candy Machine (moved to Bushwick)
Front Room Gallery (moving to LES)
Gitana Rosa Gallery (moved to Woodstock)
P339 (now a dress shop)
Parker's Box (now a men's clothing store)
Pierogi (moved to LES)
Skink Ink Editions (no longer open to public}
Ventana244 (Suspended since this summer)
Like The Spice (now a hat making shop)
Hogar Collection (now a gamers' store and hangout)
Secret Project Robot (moved to Bushwick)
Monster Island (demolished)
Cinders Gallery (now a restaurant)
Dam, Stuhltrager (now a French language tutoring place)
Jack The Pelican
There's a new group show at Black Ball Projects. They also have a nice selection artist's books for sale. We'll stop by. We will also be seeing these art spaces:
Carrie Able (if we're nearby)
Journal (if they're open)
And we'll end at Front Room!
