We're Gonna Make Ceramic Tiles!

The tile studio is located at 331 Grand St, between Marcy Ave and Havemeyer St, in Brooklyn. This location is near the Lorimer stop if the L train, the Metropolitan stop of the G train, and the Marcy stop on the J and M trains. Call me when you arrive,[masked]-8115. See you soon!

Greetings Wired NY members. Please join our first ever ceramic tile workshop, held in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. There will be a demonstration of art tile techniques, and then you can try your hand at making several tiles. Tiles can be decorated in a number of ways; carved, embossed, textured, pierced, etc.

Clay, tools, and glaze will be provided. Just show up with your "work" clothes. We will get started at 6pm, and we will finish at about 8 pm. Feel free to BYOB, if that improves your artistic talents. This event is limited to 8 participants.

After your tiles are dry, (about a week), they will be fired in a kiln. Then the tiles are glazed, and fired a second time. After that, you can make arrangements to pick them up. Art tiles make perfect gifts, for friends, lovers, and mothers-in-law.

Location is very near the Lorimer Street L-train. Exact details will be emailed prior to the event.

I was disappointed. The description said: "There will be a demonstration of art tile techniques, and then you can try your hand at making several tiles. Tiles can be decorated in a number of ways; carved, embossed, textured, pierced, etc. Clay, tools, and glaze will be provided."

I think this was a very misleading description, especially the addition of the word "glaze." I know a little about pottery. We didn't make several tiles. We were given tiles by the organizer, which we then spent most of the session embossing. We did not glaze tiles. We were allowed to underglaze one already-fired tile. The tiles we embossed will be glazed by the organizer, in one color. I was really hoping to experiment with different combinations of glazing colors. I think that the organizer should have prepared beforehand and allowed us to glaze at least one tile in different colors. Spending nearly two hours embossing wet clay was kind of like day camp.
