Go Shopping & Hanging out in Key West for the Day

Boat Ride & Shopping In Key West

Saturday July 26, we get on the Key West Express at Fort Myers Beach. Boat leaves at 8:30AM. So we need to meet around 8:00AM.  The ride to Key West is about 3.5 hours. There is a stop in Marco Island. Then it’s on to Key West. We will go shopping and have lunch. Then at 5:00PM the boat leaves  and heads home.

If you don’t want to shop, there is a trolley that rides around the town, with a guide and points out all the sites like Sloppy Joes and the Hemingway House. . L\There are lots of touristy things to do there in addition to browsing the shops.  If there is something else in Key West that you would rather do than shop, feel free to do it. Just make sure you are back on the boat BEFORE 5:00PM.

The boat is open air up on the top deck and has an air conditioned interior. The boat has big screen TV’s in the AC if you don’t like the sun. The boat has a galley onboard so you can buy drinks and food.

If you are prone to sea sickness, you might want to skip this activity. If you get on and decide the ride is too much you can get off in Marco Island and get a ride back home. But Once we leave Marco, you have to tough it out. If you get to Key West and decide you can’t take another 3.5 hours on the boat for the return trip, your options are, rent a car and drive home or find a friend to come and pick you up.

Tickets: Everyone will be buying their own tickets  on the Key West Express website.

I called Key West Express and they said If you go on the website and buy your ticket at least 8 days in advance, the price is $134 and that includes tax.  If you wait until the day before to buy, the price is $147 round trip.

You will see advertised prices for $119, however, those prices are only good for Mon-Thurs. They are no good for Friday and the weekend.

Now, here is the fine print, If you are sick, or you have guests from out of town or some other circumstances, unfortunately, there are NO REFUNDS for any reason. The best you can do is take the ticket  and take it to Key West express to book another date for a $25 fee.

This is all spelled out  on their website.

There is no reason why guys can’t go on this. We can use extra help carrying the bags!

You can bring a guest if you want.

New Information

July 13, 2014

We have about 8 to 10 going from other groups

New trip detailsThere is a $9 per vehicle parking fee, to leave your car in the parking lot all day. I paid the fee  Where I live, we have plenty of parking. I live only a few miles from 1200 Main st, Ft Myers Beach. I can take 4 people in my car to the boat.  So we need to decide who wants to ride to the boat with me and park at my place. The boat leaves at 8:30AM.  Check in begins 60 to 90 minutes prior to departure. That means we need to be there at 7:30AM. Bring your drivers license. You will need it to board. Passengers not onboard by 8:00AM may be denied travel. Tickets for the $134 price must be bought online no later than this coming Thursday, July 17.  And you might want to do it by Wednesday July 16 just to be safe.   They have a $3.00 convenience fee added on too so the price is actually $137 ROUND TRIP.  If you pay after the deadline, the price is $147 plus $3 for the convenience fee, so it totals $150. When you purchase your ticket, contact [masked] so we can figure out the parking situation.
