What we're about
We are queer women and genderqueer folks in our 40s, 50s, and 30s - or older, or younger - who think going for a hike, having a meal, and talking about a book (and whatever else comes to mind) makes for such a good day we could do it again and again. We have kind hearts and wide-ranging minds.
Though this group is geared toward singles wanting a relationship, with an age range centered around 40something (plus or minus a decade), anyone of any age, gender, status, or any other characteristic or orientation who has read the book and likes the hike/food plan is welcome to come and connect. To be even more clear: People in relationships and not are welcome. People wanting to date and not are welcome. No assumptions about monogamy or polyamory. After all, if someone in the group finds themselves in a new relationship that changes their "single" status (me? just sayin'...), I would want them to keep coming! And what if you miss meeting someone who becomes a lifelong friend just because you thought the group was for people looking to date only? Naw... just come.
As the organizer, I set up about one hike per month, based on what I am reading, in hopes of drawing in people who are also interested in the topic I'm thinking about. Members are invited to set up additional hikes with whatever books they like. So far we've mostly read non-fiction, so some juicy fiction would likely be very welcome. We've done mostly shorter hikes, so a long one might be appreciated. During the warm and dry season, we have picnics most of the time. When it gets cooler, we can go to restaurants to share a meal. Some hikes are in the morning with brunch after, and some are now in the afternoon with possible dinner after.
Because we want this group to be comfortable and accessible, we do our best to be 100% fragrance-free with body, hair, and laundry products. An excellent resource to learn about this is here (http://eastbaymeditation.org/accessibility/scentfree.html), at the East Bay Meditation Center (http://eastbaymeditation.org/accessibility/scentfree.html) website.
