617 Front Street, Key West, FL
Meet Mardi Gras' biggest rival: Fantasy Fest. This annual event, taking place the week preceding Halloween, is the party of the year and not to be missed! With a new theme every year, the festival is filled with costume competitions and themed parties, fundraisers for big causes, body painting, and parades.
The unofficial kickoff party begins with Goombay Festival, a 2 day street party which celebrates Bahamian food and culture. Next up is the can't miss Royal Coronation Ball where the Fantasy Fest king and queen are crowned.
Costume contests continue throughout the week including the annual Headdress Ball, Pet Masquerade, and Pretenders in Paradise. A procession through the streets of Old Town Key West, called the Masquerade March, is where everyone is welcome to join in the costume madness and fun. The last Friday includes a street fair along Duval Street featuring food, artisans and libations. There are various theme parties at local establishments (such as Hippie, Pirate, Nerd, Red TuTu, etc.), so when we get the official Fantasy Fest calendar, I will fill you in, so you can pack accordingly!
I have been on a waiting list for this resort for the week of Fantasy Fest since our group went in October of 2014 - and I was on a waiting list for that, too! I had to use six of my timeshare weeks pooled together to move up the waiting list to get this. The Galleon Resort and Marina is in a prime location right near the heart of the action. We have a two bedroom suite with two full bathrooms, a full kitchen, dining room, and living room. The price of this Meetup is for seven nights, two per room (does not include meals, tickets for anything we may choose to see, or airfare). Our suite would be $900/night during this week (we asked the resort last time), and regular hotel rooms are in the $600/night range, but I'm offering this for only $700 per person for the whole week. If you can't stay for the whole week, it is still the same price, because you are really getting a huge discount. If you want to pay for an extra spot to have your own room, add a +1 where it asks if you are bringing any guests when you reply (I will know that this means you want your own room, because only members of the group can sign up to go). If you would like to have a friend share your room, she must join the group and sign up that way, so we can all communicate through this Meetup.
This trip is for women only, and not for the faint-hearted! The small Island of Key West, Florida, transforms from 7,000 people to 70,000 people this week. There will be walking involved, but the island is only 2.2 miles long, so we managed nicely last time! Let me know if you have any questions. I hope you can join us!
Refunds are not offered for this Meetup.
