PHILIP K. DICK: Short stories

Hi DCRR,

We voted on a bunch of sci-fi titles, and Philip K. Dick narrowly beat out Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land as the winner. I picked some stories from the Selected Stories of Philip K. Dick (available on Amazon): http://www.amazon.com/Selected-Stories-Philip-K-Dick/dp/0375421513/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

I'd point to the following stories in particular:

+ Second Variety
+ Imposter
+ Autofac
+ The Exit Door Leads In
+ Rautavaara's Case
+ I Hope I Shall Arrive Soon

I also HIGHLY recommend his wonderful essay "How To Build A Universe That Doesn't Fall Apart Two Days Later", which might help to ground us in the biography of this rather unusual writer. Link is here: http://deoxy.org/pkd_how2build.htm

Our next three meet-ups for the year will be poetry by William Butler Yeats, short stories by Philip K. Dick, and the Popol Vuh creation myth. Next January we are reading Swann's Way by Marcel Proust, and around May we will do Neil Gaiman's Sandman. The dates in between have yet to be scheduled!

Great stories, and a great group to share them. PKD stirs the mind, ferments new ideas.

The short stories are simply great, fun writing, fun reading. I hope to be bringing Ragnvi as a guest. Still reading the stories tonight...or this morning at this point!
