Need a Membership Website? Join the Club! – How to Set Up a Membership Site in WordPress
Tara Claeys (@design_tlc (https://twitter.com/design_tlc))
A membership site makes some content available only to members who have logged in. To gain access to this content, visitors usually have to pay to join as a member, but some membership sites are free.
WordPress out-of-the-box is not set up for this type of membership. However, there are a number of free and premium membership plugins available for WordPress. Membership websites can be complex, so it is worth considering what functionality you really need when evaluating the features of these plugins.
In this presentation, Tara Claeys will talk about types of membership websites, questions to ask when choosing a membership plugin, and basic set up and configuration of a WordPress membership website.
Organizing Your First Website Usability Test
Anthony D. Paul (@anthonydpaul (https://twitter.com/anthonydpaul))
You’ve built a shiny, new WordPress site. You asked your grandma and your client if they like it and they both do. However, you’re lying awake at night wondering if you’re missing something—because you know you’re not the end user. You yearn for actionable feedback.
In this talk, I’ll distill my background in usability research into a how-to framework for taking your site and conducting your first moderated usability test. I’ll cover what to look for, best practices in facilitation, tools on the cheap, and how to glean the most from a brief window of time.
Anthony's Bio: I help build great digital experiences and software through usability research, IA concepts, and prototypes. Outside the office, you’ll find me spread across regional meetups and conferences—evangelizing IA/UX, accessibility, and a variety of open source dev projects. When I’m not doing responsible adult things, I grow the world’s hottest chili peppers and bottle my own hot sauce. I’d divulge something funny from my past, but these days the Internet does a better job of surfacing our embarrassing moments; find me anywhere by Googling “anthonydpaul”.
As always, food and drink will be sponsored by CHIEF (http://agencychief.com).
Also, we rely on accurate RSVP counts to estimate how much food and drink to purchase for the event. If you realize you can't make it, please update your RSVP as soon as possible.
