Submit it! - hackathon

In partnership with UI Centric, we're again holding a day for you to set aside some time to focus on completing an app you're working on. We'll provide support, refreshments and a few incentives to help you on your way too.

Whether it’s a new app, or game, or an update to an existing one, this is a day all about submitting to the store. We're inviting developers from the Windows Apps London community and beyond to come and finish then submit their UWP apps and games.

If you've been putting off upgrading something to Windows 10 [Mobile] this might be a great time to do it.

Whether you need help with a specific issue or just want the opportunity to set some time aside to work on your app, we're here to help you submit your next great app.

We'll be providing food and drink so please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements and we'll do all we can accommodate your needs.

There will also be prizes and other goodies for taking part and submitting your UWP apps to the store.

Please answer all questions when registering or if you have any questions about the event don't hesitate to get in touch.

Please note that this is different to our usual events. It is an all day event on a Saturday where you can come and work on your apps and get help and encouragement to submit them to the store. If you're interested in just coming along to see what other people are working on or listen to some talks then this event isn't that.

It was a great event. Rodrigo: my certification came through this morning. Looking forward to the next event!

Just for everyone to have a laugh: My Microsoft band theming app just failed certification because it "requires additional hardware to test"... The first two submissions of course didn't fall for that! ☺

Anyone else having issues with their submission? Mine is still stuck in certification phase - this happened before with a submission for a private beta update taking up to a week, and cancelling/resubmitting doesn't seem to solve it.

Thank you guys for organizing again such a great event. I now find myself aligning my major milestones to fall on the hackathon Saturday. So yeah, keep them coming!

If you're porting a Silverlight/WP app today make sure you check out mobilize here:

If you're porting in general and don't mind reading the ramblings of a developer tasked with creating content for a website...

Hi everyone. I'm a south east London based freelancing journalist, working on a long form piece on independent game developers. I wanted to know if I could come down tomorrow with some filming equipment and shoot some clips of the event, the apps and games everyone is working on, maybe get some interviews?

Would this be ok with the organisers and everyone else?

Hi Sebastian, thank you for reaching out. To be honest whilst I appreciate you offering I don't think you would get much out of this event as we tend to see app submissions rather than game submissions. It is also going to be a little difficult to coordinate any filming given the nature of the event without a little more prior planning.

I wish you the best of luck with your piece,

    Hi Sebastian
It is really up to the hosts (UI Centric) to decide whether they want you there. So it would have been better if you'd reached out to them privately, rather than posting publicly.
But speaking only for myself, I'd have some concerns about your attendance. You mention filming equipment, and you're looking to do some interviews too - that could be quite disruptive, and make it hard for us to concentrate on the work we're trying to get done. Also, the presence of 'media' in the room might stop people having the kind of honest interchange that makes these events so valuable. Finally, you don't say anything about the actual focus area of the article you're planning to write (Are you for us or against us? Are you actually just coming along to fan the flames of Gamergate? Who might publish your article?). And by putting your request at the very last minute, you make it hard for us to discuss these things properly.
As I say, though, it's for Jay to give you a final answer.

Hi everyone. We've just been checking and there are some fairly hefty closures planned on the London Underground this week that are going to cause a couple of problems:

There is no service on the entire circle line, and the district line is closed between Tower hill and West Ham. Combined with a closure on the Metropolitan line effectively this means that both Aldgate and Aldgate east station will not be reachable this Saturday.

The next closest stations to the location are:

    - Tower Hill
    - Fenchurch Street
    - Tower Gateway
    - Liverpool street

All of the above are a short walk to the UI Centric offices on Alie Street, so your best bet is going to be finding your way to one of those stations and walking the rest of the way.

That aside everything else is organised and ready to see you all on Saturday, we're excited to see your submissions and give away some prizes!

For those who might be wondering: we'll have a total of 5 prizes to give away at this event. True to the theme they are all UWP related...
