The Philadelphia Writers Meetup Group Monthly Meetup

It's a new location, The Church is Old First Reformed Church (historic!) and is located on the southeast corner of  4th and Race. The social hall has more than enough room and no one will be there. The best way to get there is to go into the main courtyard and then go around the side of the building. There is a large door on the 4th street side and that is the social hall entrance.

Love the new location. Much quieter than the other place. I hope we can stay here

Loved the new 4th and race location. Thanks Julius. 30 people showed up. 3 new people. We went the the nearby cafe after for drinks and some food. The group has successfully transitioned to the new space! Change is good.

Hey everyone! (copying of Julius's email)

Julius has confirmed with his pastor (Michael Caine...for real...great guy) that we can meet in the social hall for our meeting on Saturday. Julius will be our front to guide folks in and there are bathrooms and a couple of convenience stores nearby (Sassafrass Market, Starbucks and a few places where the group can meet afterwards for drinks and food if so desired.)

As he said Julius will be there early to expedite and guide folks in the right direction. Here is the church's website for more info!

This will be my first attendance. Please advise if I should bring any of my writings? If not, would you give me a brief idea of what to expect? Or what is expected of myself.

Charlie: The way it works is this: Sonja -- the first hour of the meetings are "craft chat," where we talk various writing and publication subjects. For the second hour and a half, we review four or more people's submissions. You don't have to submit, but if you'd like to, at your first Meetup, put your personal e-mail address (Meetup e-mail cannot do attachments) on the sign-up sheet provided, and get Julius' e-mail address. Then you can send him a piece for the next month's Meetup. Charlie, you're not supposed to give out Julius's (or anyone's but your own) e-mail address here. So I've deleted your previous comment to Sonja. Sorry.

I have to visit my daughter in DC. Were you able to contact the Ethical Society in the Rittenhouse Square?

We could continue at the Bourse if we split the craft chat into smaller groups, which might also increase engagement with more discussion. If the pattern holds, by the time we get to critiques the loud crowds will have left and we could go back to one group.

That's wonderful Eric, but can someone call to inquire? I've been busy checking with the Bourse, my own church and Holy Trinity Church on Rittenhouse. I would even be willing to have the meeting in Rittenhouse square, near the Barnes and Noble (for bathrooms) if the weather is cooperative.

At the recent July meeting, there were lots of ideas for new locations for our Meetup group, including The Community College of Philadelphia (where there is a writing club open to the community), the Writers House on the UPenn campus, The Gershman Y on Broad Street, the Phoenix Building where the Starbucks seating is located, and others. In other words, there are ideas floating around where we might be able to meet.
