Harsh realistic science fiction / fantasy.
I've never read a book on writing.
Mostly old stuff, like Richard Adams again and again. I have not read a novel that I've admired in a decade. So, I've turned to nonfiction, but return to the classics for escapism.
I'm a 55 year old therapist in a children's mental health program. I grew up in housing projects and, despite national recognitions in my field, have no expectation to rise above this class. However, I teach my kids to aspire beyond the stars.
Ebook makes the list: "And the winners are (in no particular order)... Robert Eggleton's e-book, Rarity from the Hollow (Fatcat Press). Nominated by Evelyn Somers..." You can see the full "Back to Literature" column at, see the book covers
