Yes, this is nothing more than a smoke screen to cover up real issues. It seems every election year there is a group that is chosen and pounced. Unfortunately people are falling for it every time.

Is it me, or does a constitutional amendment in a primary that excludes half
of the electorate bring court challenges right after the vote?
