Re: [writers-972] Davis & Sacramento

Hi, Ryan.

I think having the Sacramento group a couple of times a month would be great.  If you would not be able to make it to the Davis group every week if we go that route, I definitely understand.  If that would be the case, it may be a good idea to have an assistant coordinator/organizer for the Davis group for those weeks you wouldn't be able to make it.  We can talk about it more tomorrow perhaps when more people have more feedback.

The suggestion I got from Sylvanopolis (the Sacramento writing group) is copied below. It sounds like a good idea to me. I was thinking that we could continue the Davis group weekly and also have the Sacramento group once or twice per month. If we do that then I probably won't be able to come to the Davis group every week, because that would be too much. Please share your thoughts!

Hi Ryan,

I'm not sure if you remember me. I'm Melissa from Sylvanopolis Writers' Society and we met a couple of times at the Davis Group. Since then, I know Jessa has left and you've assumed the position of leader. Drea, our effective leader, told me that you emailed her saying that many of your members have been defecting to us. I was hoping to talk to you about how we could use your new authority and the lack of a firm anchor in Davis to everyone's advantage.

Sylvanopolis is meant to be a banner title for a multitude of smaller groups. At the moment, we are still just meeting as one, rather large group, but within the next month or two, we plan to split- including a workshop group for beginning writers, a poetry group, and several critique groups for writers working on definite projects. In this format, each smaller group will have a leader/moderator and will meet at that person's discretion, probably once or twice a month.

You had expressed interest in joining Sylvanopolis and I think you also said that you live in Sacramento, as it seems many other people in the Davis group do also. Since you volunteered to lead the Davis group, I was wondering if you would like to move this to a location in Sacramento and lead a group of fellow general fiction writers for Sylvanopolis. Other members of the Davis group who write specific genre styles, like Steven, could then find a place within other critique groups that specialize in their genre.

Please let me know your thoughts on this. If you would like to schedule a time to talk about this in person with either Drea or me, that can be arranged. The goal is, of course, to find the best fit for as many writers as possible.

Thank you,
