I got an email via the writers' group which sounds like a scam to me. I thought I'd pass it along to everybody and see what the consensus is via a poll. I deleted the contact information but this is what was sent to me. If you get a message like this I suggest you be careful.
My name is Bill Boyle and I am a professional screenwriter. I also teach screenwriting at UCLA. I am coming to Sacramento to conduct a Lecture and a series of workshops from Sept. 21 to 24. I would like the opportunity to send you more detailed material on the workshops if I could and then forward the information to your members.
One thing I will mention at this point is that due to a special arrangement with Write Brother's Movie Magic, I am able to offer the software to those who register for the workshop(s) at a slashed rate of $99 (the normal cost is $250.00). This is in no way compulsary in taking the workshops. It is just a special deal that Movie Magic has offered me.
If you could send me an email address that allows me to send attachments then I will send you the material.
Please get back to me as soon as possible as I want to get this information out by the middle of next week.
This group gathers to offer critique to new and experienced writers of all genres.
The goal of our writing group is to provide a supportive forum that gives writers honest and constructive criticism.Seeing your work through the eyes of other writers, hearing honest and candid feedback about your craft, and thinking critically about others’ work is the best way to improve as a writer. If you are interested in growing as a writer, please join us!
When you join this meetup we will send you more details about how to participate, including how to find the pieces currently submitted for critique.
