My Yoga Training and Experience

I am a registered and insured Yoga Instructor and a member of the Yoga Alliance since 2005. I have been teaching since 2004 in India and have continued to teach in the USA, the Netherlands, Europe and Canada.

2005: In Canada, I trained at the Sivananda Yoga Center. I also participated in the 700-hour Teacher Training Program Esther Myers Yoga in the heart-felt tradition of Vanda Scaravelli, which left a a profound imprint with me, on how to practice – and teach – yoga with Heart. Here I met and learned from A. G. Mohan, a very special teacher with an emphasis on yoga therapy, as well as undergoing further training in Yoga for Pregnancy. Separately, I also completed a teacher's training programme of Yoga for Children, with Temmi Ungerman-Sears of Yogabuds.

2003 and 2004: In India, I completed a 6-month Certified Yoga Sciences Therapy Course, (over 900 hours) preceded by a 1-month Teacher Training Program (350 hours). As part of my training, I worked with yoga therapy patients, taught yoga and meditation classes and gave lectures on yoga techniques.

2004: It was also in India (at Mysore, and at Neyyar Dam, in Kerala) where I furthered my studies in Classical, Hatha, Sivananda and Astanga yoga – and augmented them by attending the 14th Annual International Yoga Conference in India. At the conference, I attended workshops led by Naschala Joy Devi and other respected yogis. I am an associate of the Shivambu Yoga and Nature Cure Clinic in Kolhapur, India, where I trained in the yogic practice of Sivambu.

2001: I studied in the United States with the Kripalu Yoga and Health Centre, where I had classes with Rodney Lee and Amy Weintraub, among others, and partook in the “Seva training” program. My experience there was what rooted my decision to become a yoga instructor/therapist.

As a yoga instructor and therapist, I am registered with Yoga Alliance at 500 hours.

My teaching experience includes yoga therapy in India at the Arrogya Dhama Health Retreat, at the Nilambe Buddhist Meditation Centre in Sri Lanka, as well as in Thailand, France, Amsterdam, North Carolina, and Toronto, Hamilton and Burlington, Canada. My students include all walks of life, ages and abilities.

Over the past 10 years, I have worked with the Community of Occupational Therapists and Associates and the Riverdale Hospital, (now closed), in Toronto, Canada as an OT assistant for the terminally ill. Until leaving Toronto in 2003, I had continued community outreach through regular workshops for members of Gilda’s Club, a cancer hospice in Toronto, including gentle weekly yoga classes and breathing workshops.

In Bronte, Burlington and area, I offer group and private classes, corporate classes and yoga therapy.

I also teach people about sustainable foraging as an alternative food and medicine source. To link to this site, click here.
