What we're about
Meet other people interested in Zen Meditation. Zen is not a path of devotion, nor opposed to any faith: Just watching the breath and being aware of being aware.
Weekly sits are held from 7 pm until about 8:30 pm on Wednesday (advanced night with three sits in a row with five minute breaks), Monday and Friday (two twenty-five minute sits with walking meditation in between). there are occasional exceptions--no sits in any location starting Tuesday, August 15 through that entire week up do and including Sunday, August 20 , because a meditation retreat called a sesshin will be in progress.
Some come every week and others just come when they can. The extent of commitment is personal. Anyone who attends any sit wearing loose, comfortable clothing will be shown how to sit on the cushion and how to follow the breath. If it is possible to come a few minutes early the first time, that would be helpful.
Cold Mountain Sangha is presently based in Lucy Stone Hall at 54 Joyce Kilmer Avenue on the Livingston campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway. For the most current schedule of sits and locations, the complete schedule of sits and locations and more information about our teacher and the sangha, please check: coldmountainzen.org.
If you have other questions, you can also email email@example.com or call 908-403-1851 between 6:15 and 7 pm on any sit evening.
Our initial goal is to learn to live in the moment by experiencing a deepening of our concentration over time. There is no charge for coming to our sits. Any person who would like to experience the beauty, peace, and connectedness of just sitting in silence with other people is encouraged to come and sit with us. Once you know where we are, no rsvp is necessary. All you have to do is show up.
