RE: [entrepreneur-200] Leadership mentoring

Hello,

Are you an engineer looking for a mentor? I learnt most of it myself with so many side projects before finding Scott Meyers books for C++ (that pretty much laid out what I already learned the hard way). Programming is not that hard nowadays with so many good online resources, you should be able to learn the gist of it relatively easily. Then it requires practice, just like playing guitare. Good design is much harder and I was fortunate to have a mentor while I was at Electronic Arts, he was my lead at the time. I coach most engineers I work with nowadays; I don't think much about it, it's just part of my work.

Leadership is a bit different as it's best to learn it when you are actually not in an official leadership position (you train differently and would be that much more successful when you will end up being responsible for other people in the end). I found it almost impossible to learn leadership on my own (at least for non-naturals). It's just very difficult to see ourselves without all our cognitive biased.

Let me know what you are interested in. If personal mentoring is not your thing of if you are curious as to understanding your leadership potential, I run a small workshop on leadership, you are welcomed to join: http://leadershipzh.eventbrite.com/

Kind regards,

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

you say this guy opened doors and helped you learn about leadership. What about software engineering?

regards,

Milan

Hi all,

I've been working on an idea recently to provide leadership mentoring for those willing to push their career further at work.

A bit of background about me: I worked for more than 10 companies so far (in France/UK & Switzerland) as senior software engineer mostly but it's only a few years ago that I had the chance to find a mentor at work. He opened doors I didn't even know existed, I learnt so much about leadership from him, it was unbelievable. Since then I consider it to be my duty to mentor my directs at work on leadership and it's been one of the most rewarding experience so far.

I usually pick the people I coach based on abilities I see in them at work but I'm happy to help more people grow if they have an interest in progressing in their career and lives.

This is what my latest coachee said about me: “Jeremy was my coach and I’ve personally benefited from his powerful coaching. I’ve made progress both personally and professionally thanks to him.
With a strong knowledge in human behaviour and psychology, Jeremy is the best coach I could have asked for. I’m on better life path that maximizes my skills and allows me to handle my lesser qualities more comfortably.
I really cannot express how much I owe to him.”

Let me know if you would be interested

Kind regards,

Jeremy

PS: Thanks David for the suggestion!
